@jeremyct When my dad retired at 60, he had Blue Cross Blue Shield for life guaranteed by his employer. He and my mother also bought their longtime house for 12 grand in 1961. It was a different time.

My dad retired at 59 I will not He had a pension. I have a 401k I can barely fund. He bought his house at 28. I can't touch a down payment at 30. He paid $90 a month for health insurance. I pay $430. At dinner he told me I need to be smarter with money. I nodded. Didn't tell him his entire life was built on an economy that no longer exists. Didn't tell him my generation is paying for his Social Security while ours gets gutted. Didn't tell him the ladder he climbed got pulled up right after him. Just passed the potatoes. Make it make sense

@RoseElla1234 Kind of reminds me of Jimmy Stewart hanging from a downspout on the top floor of a skyscraper in Vertigo. Hitchcock was brilliant but he wasn’t in to realism.

“To Catch a Thief” (1955) looks like a silky Riviera fantasy, but behind the glamour was an aging star, a future princess, and a director who mostly wanted a working holiday in the south of France. Cary Grant had actually talked about retiring before this film, worried audiences now preferred brooding Method actors like Brando. Hitchcock tempted him back with two promises: Grace Kelly as his co‑star and weeks of filming on the French Riviera, even though Grant was fifty playing a thief meant to be in his thirties. Grace arrived as Hollywood’s cool blonde, but on set she was playful and sharp. In the famous picnic scene, when she purrs, “Do you prefer a leg… or a breast?” the charged line and Grant’s quiet reaction slipped cheekily past the censors and turned a simple lunch into pure innuendo. Hitchcock laced the film with private jokes, even giving Robie a backstory as a circus acrobat, lifted straight from Grant’s own youth as Archie Leach in a traveling troupe. And while the story is about stolen jewels, the real theft happened off screen: during location shooting in Monaco, Grace Kelly fell in love with the place itself, soon to become her home as Princess Grace after she married Prince Rainier.

@RoseElla1234 Fun movie but admittedly seeing a 50 year old, out of shape Cary Grant walking in street shoes while supposedly walking on a pitched tile roof more than 20 stories high is hilarious, probably unintentionally so…..
