Исламисты устроили автономное государство в отдельно взятом дагестанском посёлке. Movses Silikov (1862-1937), Major General of the Russian Imperial Army. During World War I, he participated in combat operations against the Ottoman Empire on the Caucasian Front. An ethnic Udi from the village of Vartashen (now Oguz, Azerbaijan). In 1918, Silikov entered the service of the army of the Republic of Armenia. In May of that year, at the Battle of Sardarapat, Silikov defeated the Turkish troops advancing on Yerevan. At that time, the future Marshal of the USSR Ivan Bagramyan served under his command, who later noted Silikov's outstanding abilities as a military leader. After the Bolsheviks came to power in Armenia, he worked in the branches of Swedish and American firms selling agricultural goods. Silikov was persecuted by the Soviet authorities and arrested several times. After another arrest in 1937, he was executed. Posthumously exonerated in 1987. The Udis are one of the most ancient peoples of the Eastern Caucasus. Their ancestors, along with other peoples of the Lezgic group, were historically part of the multi-tribal state union of Caucasian Albania.
