There is one sentence in that announcement that matters. They did not put it in the headline.
The Charge returns to zero the moment your student appears.
Read it again. Slowly.
Now let me tell you what it costs.
You are 190 pulls in.
You have had a wretched banner. Your pyroxene is gone, your poor wallet is empty, and for 2 weeks you have been telling yourself the next 10 will do it. And you are right. You are 10 pulls from the spark. 10. You can see it from where you are standing.
She drops on 190.
Your count goes to zero.
Zero. After 190. The game waited until you were 10 steps from the door, and then it moved the door.
You were 10 pulls from taking both of them home.
You are now 200 pulls from the second one.
22,800 pyroxene, and all that went in the same instant the game finally, finally paid you.
Here is the part they need you to miss.
Pull her at 10, you lose 10.
Pull her at 190, you lose 190.
The longer this game made you suffer, the more it charges you for ending that very same suffering.
Say that back to yourself. The worse your luck, the bigger the fine.
There is a word for a system that bills you in proportion to how much it has already hurt you. I will let each of you pick your own.
And then ask where it goes.
The old points never died. Left alone at the end of a rate up they became Keystone Pieces, and Keystone Pieces became gifts, and gifts became an afternoon with the student you actually came here for. Some of you planned around exactly that. Held the number on purpose. Let it ripen. Spent the season on affection grinding in the crafting chamber. For some, that was a real way to play this game and it worked.
So what does a reset Charge become?
They have not said. Who fucking knows?
They announced this on the 26th. It goes live on the 29th. And they have not told us what happens to 190 pulls at the moment the system eats them.
Now the other thing. The thing we swore we would never have.
We were the game that did not do this.
Every one of you has watched it happen somewhere else. Somebody saves for a year, hits their pity, loses that shitty-ass coinflip, posts the screenshot. And you looked at that screenshot and you felt something, and I want you to be honest about what it was. It was relief. It was knowing that in our game, 24,000 pyroxene bought exactly what it said on the tin, every single time, forever.
That was the best thing about this economy. We knew it. We said so, loudly, for 5 years, to anyone who would sit still long enough to hear it.
The advice? One simple sentence. “Don’t pull under 200.”
They want to put the coin flip in.
In our game.
And look what that does to planning. The old spark was a simple contract. 200 pulls, no dice, no small print, no interpretation. You knew the price before you paid it. You could build a year around it: anniversary, summer, New Year, you knew what each one would run you.
You COULD get lucky and hit before 200, and that was- for most cases- enough.
There is no price now. But… there is a bill that arrives afterward.
I am going to say something my own side will not enjoy.
Some of this is good.
The carry-over is real, and a count that survives the end of a banner is worth having. If you are chasing one student and one student only, this system will treat you better on your worst days than the old one ever did. The 100 floor catches SOME people who used to fall a very long way. The milestone rewards are fine.
Now look at what it cost.
And notice which item off that list they picked for the announcement: 400 pulls, worst case, unchanged. Perfectly true. It is also the single route through this system that did not get worse, out of every route they could have shown us.
They knew. Nobody goes hunting for the one number that stayed flat unless they already know what the rest of them did.
If you want to understand why now, look at the building instead of the patch notes.
A new chair at the top of the company in February. A restructuring announced to investors in March: too many projects, costs too high, decisions too slow. Every title graded on 4 things now, and the last one is profitability. Some get funded. Some get rebuilt. Some get shut down entirely.
Somebody was handed a target and told to make the gacha feel kinder without letting it cost less, and they were good at their job. That is the whole story. It photographs like mercy and it audits like a win. But is it really?
3 things. In this order. Nothing else from anyone until these move.
One. Do not reset the Charge. Carry the remainder. Progress has to survive the thing it was buying. Keep it as it is now.
Two. Take that stupid coin out. Nobody asked for a 50/50.
Three. Tell us what a reset Charge becomes. Before the 29th. If it converts, say so. If it evaporates, say that. This costs them one sentence, and I want every one of you watching to see whether they write it.
And when you speak, bring the number. Never "this feels bad." Always: 200 pulls used to bring home at least 1 student, it now brings home 1 and no more, and that gap grows with every pull of bad luck you already ate.
We were the game that did not do this.
Be loud enough that we stay that way.
We have a voice. Use it.
Count every grievance, Sensei.
They are counting us.
