I didn’t work for the Idaho Statesman long, but long enough to know @mcclatchy has made the completely wrong decision. Christina was one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met. Disgusting that the company is ok firing someone who wants nothing but the best for her staff.
Idaho NewsGuild@IdahoNewsGuild

🧵 Today, the journalists of the Idaho News Guild sent a letter to @mcclatchy management to formally protest the abrupt and inappropriate firing of editor Christina Lords.

@StaceyHopstad @IdahoStatesman As far as the city of Boise goes, no. Once the Mayor lifts the social distancing order they will move ahead with figuring out a plan for youth sports in their parks. Right now it’s still a kind of wait and see mode.

@GageLHanson @IdahoStatesman I am a coach trying to navigate all this. Do you know if there been any sports specific protocols laid out for Stage 2 and beyond?

It’s been a minute. But I’m back. Over the weekend I talked to a bunch of different youth sports leagues to see what their plans were as Idaho starts to reopen idahostatesman.com/news/coronavir…

These are strange times we live in, but we need to make the best of it. Use these momentous occasions to transform yourself and the world you live in for the better. We will all come out of the tunnel on the other end.

This hurts in more ways the one. My first year covering sports for the statesman was cut short. My sister’s senior year was cut short and this was her first, and only year on varsity All the seniors I covered this year have to move on before they are ready. Heartbreaking

“It’s appropriate … to let families know so they can start planning for the future.” It also ends all spring sports in the Boise School District. idahostatesman.com/news/local/edu… #idpreps

We aren’t doing this just for ourselves, but for our readers too. Local journalism is important and we need to be able to provide important facts to the public efficiently. A union helps achieve this goal. #ProtectIdahoNews

We were supposed to vote for our union today but didn’t because of COVID-19 so we are celebrating by wearing our @IdahoNewsGuild t-shirts. Times like this prove how valuable local journalism is and we need a union to protect local newspaper’s integrity and quality.

It is now more crucial than ever to #ProtectIdahoNews. Today, the @IdahoNewsGuild was supposed to hold our election, but the pandemic has postponed that. McClatchy hasn’t agreed to voluntarily recognize our union, but we’re going to continue to bring you vital, local news.

@8ntmuch @BleedBlueOrange Yeah I know I should’ve phrased that differently. I’m less concerned about who it was because my number one goal was to let as many people know we had a positive case to keep community spread down.

@GageLHanson @BleedBlueOrange They legally can not tell you who it was, not that they just want to keep it quiet. It’s a legal matter, unfortunately. But thank you for letting everyone know!

This might not reach a lot of people but I still want the message out: I work at the Target on Milwaukee road by the mall and was informed a coworker tested positive for COVID-19 Managers want to keep it quiet but I think that’s dangerous. Don’t shop there if you can avoid it.

@litlmartin @vlazuvius @Boise1932 No need to apologize. I just thought it should be something that more people should know about and this is my only outlet. So the more clarifying questions the better.

@litlmartin @vlazuvius @Boise1932 Our managers gathered us together and told us that one of our coworkers had tested positive. So if it’s a rumor then that’s a nasty way to start a rumor.

I can’t do much to protect people that come in the store so I just want to tell as much people as I can to stay away for their own health. It is risky right now.

If one coworker has it, I’m sure a portion of the staff has it right now and just haven’t started showing symptoms. They are unknowingly spreading the virus because the staff has been kept in the dark as to who tested positive and how closely they worked with everyone.
