I simply don't understand what people have in mind when they say stuff like this. What we have is extremely capable computer use agents. They will continue to get better at computer use. But how does a capable computer use agent 'take over' and why haven't they done that today?

(1) We are likely on track to develop AI systems capable of causing human extinction/permanent disempowerment, quite possibly within the next few years

Very simply, warring governments can impose lowered guardrails to access unconscionable capabilities to attack their enemies with. It's the cold war all over again, but unlike all-or-nothing nukes, AI wars can precisely escalate in temperature, and that's how we lose control.

@gisdumb @Tartarygenetics I think you're creating a bit higher bar with window dressing and dismissing the golden nugget. The epoch defining threshold of a machine figuring out something humans couldn't, has been crossed. The significance of that will become exponentially apparent in the next few years.

@galgitron @Tartarygenetics I understand perfectly what you're saying and I would agree with you, if the user had described the problem and how the solution was to be presented and the model had output the correct answer in the desired format. Not there yet.

@gisdumb @Tartarygenetics I'm not talking about the math problem, that's just the example, I'm talking about the plateau we reached: mechanical intelligence exceeding biological. Humanity's greatest achievement and it's not even close.

@galgitron @Tartarygenetics You sound like you're justifying crypto ridller decodes 😂 When done poorly, this is closer to schizophrenia. A leap for sure, but I don't know about the greatest, or even top 10 moments in human history.

@Tartarygenetics Whether the team provided context or not, from what I understand, the solution was mostly novel, utilizing many techniques outside the setup, so I don't think that made any difference.

@galgitron I agree to an extent. But what im saying is that this is far from AGI that solved the problem on its on without inputs. The team fed the LLM the traditional solutions and asked it to improve or come up with alternative solutions using historical solutions that the all improved

@Tartarygenetics This is an important milestone because it proves that it can generate knowledge that doesn't exist, which leads to all kinds of fantastic inventions that we'd never otherwise discover ourselves, like pickles and ice cream.

@Tartarygenetics The AI had to connect a shit-ton of dots to find a working solution, far beyond the ability of humans. That's the definition of intelligence, the ability to assemble discrete pieces of knowledge to arrive at a larger concept.

Cuban Embassy in US@EmbaCubaUS

.@CarlosFdeCossio Like any country, Cuba has the right to defend itself against external aggression. It is called self-defense, and it is protected by International Law and the UN Charter. Those from the US who seek the submission and, in fact, the destruction of the Cuban nation through military aggression and war, do not waste a single moment fabricating pretexts, creating and spreading falsehoods, and distorting as extraordinary the logical preparation required to face a potential aggression.

BREAKING: Cuba has acquired more than 300 military drones and has begun discussing plans to attack the US base at Guantanamo Bay, US military vessels, and possibly Key West, Florida, per Axios. Details include: 1. The threat is being described as potential "pretext for US military action" 2. CIA Director John Ratcliffe traveled to Cuba on Thursday and warned officials against engaging in hostilities 3. More US sanctions against Cuba could be announced this week 4. US intelligence says Cuba has been acquiring attack drones of "varying capabilities" from Russia and Iran since 2023 Key West is just 90 miles north of Cuba.
