Winky is an extremely handsome podenco with just one eye. He’s two years old, loves people and is good with other dogs. A few people have asked for Winky but when they hear he has leishmania nobody wants him. To have a dog in Spain or from Spain will always carry this risk. He’s treated and the Leish is not active. He’s a big lad, good on a lead and ready to be loved. What do you think? Could he be anymore handsome? ❤️

Another one of our favorite projects is helping other shelters. That’s four more arriving to GDS, two of which are Greyhounds but bred in Spain. They are adorable 🥰

The retirement home is my favorite project ❤️ The oldies stumble around doing whatever they want. Just this morning Hank fell over in a bush and couldn’t get up. Abuela knocked over a lamp shade with her lampshade (cone of shame) and Triana here has sadly lost the ability to walk. We are taking her to the neuro vet now. People ask if I get sad when they pass. I do. However I can also celebrate because they had dignity & love which so many old dogs don’t get these days. They are written off. For me I love the silly antics and the fact that old dogs still think they are puppies. More news on Triana soon but whatever happens she’s had an extra 12yrs on top of what she was supposed to live. Unless they messed up the results she was supposed to die of cancer 12yrs ago. Oh Triana 💕

Six lucky ones went to the sweet life today 🤩 Well Peter isn’t quite there as he is looking for a home with Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption Center in New Hampshire. Thank you team Fast Friends. The rest however have lovely homes lined up and will be met in New York by their families. A huge thanks to Rori & Marc for the amazing work not just in adoptions but coming over to help for a week and fly them back. A big fist bump to Nomi who took charge of the airport today with Sam and of course to Sam for helping out this morning. Great team work 😍 Who left??? Watch to find out … oh and turn the volume up as you might catch one dog trying to scare herself off in the hotel mirror 🙈😂

Estrella has had a life of disrespect. She was left behind on a property when the owner moved out. She lived in faeces. She is so submissive she constantly pees herself and rolls on her back so you might not hurt her. Since being at GDS she’s come on a little bit and started learning to have fun. Now she goes to hopefully the next and last chapter, a new home in Madrid where she can be loved, appreciated and feel safe. One day she’ll stop rolling on her back and will stand tall knowing she’ll never be hurt again 🙏🏻 Thank you to her lovely new family and fluffy brother ❤️

Look who went home in Spain 😍 it’s the fabulous Black Bean 🫘 He was rescued from a perrera where he was invisible amongst hundreds of others. It’s been an absolute lottery win to take him from there and find him this lovely home. These moments are just the best ❤️ Thank you to his wonderful new family including his big furry sister ♥️💕

Eric is finally coming back to GDS. He’s had a really hard time but he should be fine. We will let you know the biopsy results when we have them. Such a young boy and has already suffered so much ♥️ Thanks for sending Eric lots of love 💕

Millie came to GDS a few weeks ago. Recently she went for a spay and ooopsie… she’s heavily pregnant. She doesn’t look it… maybe it’s just a few hamsters 🐹 She’s due to give birth in two weeks 😬 Send her love 🙏🏻❤️

Great start to the morning as six dogs leave for new homes in Canada 🇨🇦 This is all thanks to the hard work of Bri and her fabulous team at L’arche de BriNoé - Adoption internationale de lévriers ❤️ Galgos and podencos who faced the worst here in Spain now destined for a better future. Some question why galgos and podencos go abroad. Hunters think we sell them to naive foreigners for thousands of euros. The truth is we only lose money when they go abroad, we lose money when they stay in Spain. The cost of preparation far outweighs anything we get back in terms of adoption fees no matter where they go. It’s not about the money, it’s about dogs in homes, that’s what we want and luckily thanks to your sponsorships everything can work to make their lives better. Is your sponsor dog in this video? 🔫🔫 Can you count how many times he’s been shot? Take a look at Eric’s X-Rays and count the pellets. This is a complete disgrace. They are so close to his lungs. On top of that the abcess on his chest was very difficult to remove because it’s intertwined with muscles around the chest area. Whilst the vets removed as much as they could, they had to opt for a biopsy also because some of the cells looked ugly. He’s only 11 mths old and this has been his life so far. The life with his Galguero a complete misery, then given up saying he was useless. Useless? Who do think is useless? Honestly these hunters are shameless. Eric is in the vets tonight with drains in his chest and will come back tomorrow. So angry but not surprised!

Kenny and Eric have already improved in confidence in just a few days. Today Eric is at the vets as he was given away by his hunter with a great big suspicious lump on his chest. It was actually hard to spot as it forms the same shape as the chest itself. We are currently waiting for the results. Both boys are around 11mths old. Kenny is more confident and Eric does tend to follow his lead. A home together would be amazing but we know how hard that can be… 🙏🏻❤️

The face you pull when you’ve just opened your eyes and you already need to start working! Vodka’s Miniatures are mix galgos and will likely find it harder to get a home. They’ll be working hard to impress you. Well maybe 🤣

Ivory was rescued from the streets covered in bumps. We got biopsies done and those bumps are benign cysts. We’ve had a few removed that were huge but we’ve recently noticed new ones are growing. Thyroid test was normal so next step is a skin specialist to see if we can find out what’s causing the lumps to grow so quickly. She’s adorable and we do hope she’ll still be able to find a home 🥺♥️
