Since doctors’ pay is being debated on here again, I’ve noticed that people who oppose a pay rise use one straw man argument: a doctors pay will eventually rise to a ceiling higher than most professions, so a pay rise is not warranted. This is silly: a thread

I’ve seen someone else on here suggest that the retired doctor who wrote this was a “junior” doctor in 1974 when he was “happy with £7,500” Just so we’re all clear on the maths: £7,500 in 1974 in today’s money is: 🔹 £114,756 by RPI inflation. 🔸 £72,046 by CPI inflation.

NHS England executive Glen Burley said today that plans for 1k extra medical training places would "not be moving forward" This would be a significant development as training posts are meant to be filled from August - not mentioned by Wes Streeting in his statement earlier...

@pldoubleds The answer is pizza Norway consumes the most pizza per capita! But lowkey they take their toddlers up mountains experts struggle with. They all make it look easy. They’re just built different.

[15/16] Result using Quilter’s methodology but with these real-world inputs? Bullshit headline of £125k becomes pension in real terms of £39,758 and lump sum £119,274 Quite the difference huh?

Ben & Jerry’s is the only major company I know of that has repeatedly lobbied for Black American Reparations. Two older men with access who have no incentive other than justice, are now being punished and silenced for their unwavering support of Palestine. I’m not heartbroken, im galvanized. We continue to fight the good fight ✊🏾
Ben Cohen@YoBenCohen

After 47 years, Jerry has made the difficult decision to step down from the company we built together. I’m sharing his words as he resigns from Ben & Jerry’s. His legacy deserves to be true to our values, not silenced by @MagnumGlobal #FreeBenAndJerrys

@kateshilling69 @Dr_Done_ @wesstreeting You realise paramedics would be able to access the same food when they stop at a hospital, right? And all healthcare staff struggle to get breaks and have their food. This race to the bottom nonsense is unbelievable.

@Dr_Done_ @wesstreeting Imagine demanding hot meals on a night shift when paramedics on a lot less money are lucky to grab a sandwich if they get time

Nurses performing ERCP is a conversation in itself, but this case highlights an absurdity with advanced practice regulation. Why is this nurse who performed procedures that traditionally only doctors do, being investigated by a group of nurses? yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/rotherham…

@lengreview On the webinars. Dr L comments on RC guidelines re supervision but no questions/ comments about how that scope will be enforced. Prof accepts that PA/AA roles are more present in less resourced environments - this will compound the enforcement concerns.

Hour 39 of my 48 hour my short staffed (sickness) on call and the only hospital vending machine that sells something resembling food is out of order. Guess I’ll just eat my hair.

Yesterday the Leng review came to Derriford (Plymouth) to hear all sides of the issue surrounding PAs in the NHS. Derriford is well known for employing a high number of PAs and so it makes sense for them to visit. The review is meant to be unbiased and fair.
