Here are the top downloads on the eShop in Japan for the first half of 2026. There's no data to estimate digital sales for any of these games. Nintendo doesn't show games with CERO D rating or higher in their rankings, so Resident Evil 9 is ommited.

It'll be interesting to see if Switch 2 will be able to outsell the PS5 this year. It's possible, but I wouldn't be too certain, it'll depend on how much each system gets boosted by big releases.

This week, total sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan surpassed those of the PlayStation Vita, 6.02m vs. 5.99M (including the Vita TV). That's 8 years (Vita was sold in Japan until 2019) vs. a bit more than 1. Next up is the PlayStation 5, at 7.6m as of this week.

Retail launch sales of the Goemon collection is the biggest for the series in 30 years (ignore that this is the first game in 20 years) There's a SW2 version that's digital only, digital should put launch past 100k, so it should be the second biggest knwon launch for the series

It's the fourth biggest launch of the year so far, below Tomodachi Life, Pokopia and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. Launch week alone makes it the 4th best selling game of the year so far too.

Retail launch of Rhythm Heaven Groove in Japan are the biggest for the series yet, more than twice as much as the 3DS game. Good digital sales are expected, it may be close to the total sales of the 3DS and Wii games already (about 750).

Best selling games in Japan for the first half of 2026. Coming in July, we have a strong start for the later half as both Rhythm Heaven: Groove and Splatoon Raiders are expected to be among the best selling games of the year.

The 2020 update was the final for Nintendo DS and Xbox One games, so here's the final list of top sellers for both systems.

The new Star Fox game had the series' best launch in 20 years in Japan. As the game is rather cheap, good digital sales are expected, it may be the biggest launch of Star Fox 64 in Japan yet, probably the series' 3rd biggest launch.

This week, total sales of Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan surpassed those of the original PlayStation 5 that includes a disc drive (not total sales including the Digital Edition and Pro) Switch 2 should reach 6m sold in Japan in a few weeks.
