@FledRamble now the devs couldve given him another sword but having roy from the binding blade, the game where he and only he can use said binding blade, not show up w it would be an odd choice. and its a fire sword so they made it blow up. and it hurts bc it blowing up does big damage
English

@FledRamble when dedede and kirby charge their hammer moves in smash, they take damage. that doesnt happen in their home games, so id say that happens to emphasize how strong the move is. id say the same applies to roy here; him taking damage is at the service of the move not his personality
English

If binding blade Roy had the same personality as he did in smash that’s easily greatest lord ever

one example of performative behavior i've noticed for years is where when a piece of japanese media has a very widely used localized name in english some fans of it will insist on using the japanese name anyway for some reason. very "place, japan" vibes

@tivstippi @KingKlown0 the nigga is using a sword that smash has decided to interpret as strong at its base. he goes on to fight in a way that takes advantage of that quirk. when he wins hes respectful and says the true battle is what happens after the fightings done. that doesnt sound hot headed to me
English

@tivstippi @KingKlown0 there have been plenty of official depictions of fe6 roy getting a lil heated when swinging a sword that just kinda comes w the territory of sqinging a sword i fear. im not arguing they got the same personality, just that youre misreading why he acts they way he does

English

@KingKlown0 @tivstippi im not trying to argue they got the same personality, just that saying that one is more reckless or brash than the other when theyre sharing moves and hes using the sword thats strong at the base in a way that capitalizes on that fact is the wrong read of the guy
English

@KingKlown0 @tivstippi in fe6 he only has 4 attack animations. you need about 20 for smash. so they looked at the 4 from fe6, looked at the mechanics he already had in smash, then rebuilt roys moveset from there. so i dont think you can use his moveset as evidence for his personality being more aggro
English

@TheKayaplaaya @KingKlown0 @tivstippi im aware of the mechanics yes, but those mechanics are tied to their swords specifically, not the characters. marth HAS to use the falchion, the falchions stronger at the tip, so marth adapts his fighting style to that. the same is true for roy
English

@GameInGold @KingKlown0 @tivstippi Like if you were unaware, Marth has a mechanic in Smash where if he hits with the tip of his sword, he gets more damage and knockback on his attacks. Roy get's the opposite, the bottom of his blade does increased damage, incentivizing a more aggresivve "rushdown" playstyle.
English

@KingKlown0 @tivstippi he doesnt reverse grip the sword in melee, hes just a marth clone in that game. starting w 4 he does, but thats also when he starts pulling moves from fe6 so it just loops back to what i said before
English

@GameInGold @tivstippi He was in smash before he was in FE, and he swings his sword differently in FE, never once in any official Fire Emblem content has Roy swung his sword backwards, but that’s his style in smash
English
