@GamemasterH@JohnAndersen21 Holy moly, The legendary Howard Phillips?
Thank you for your Super Mario Bros 2 input back in the 80's. You helped us kids get the better sequel.
Little did I know your face would be in all those Nintendo Power comics.

Canada gets a short shrift in video game history, but there are some interesting companies that deserve a look from there.
On the coin-op end you have Volly Industries and Nova Games - on computers there's Distinctive Software and Digital Extremes.
@Rainmaker1973 Absent Donkey Kong, where would we all be today? DK launched Nintendo of America and Mr. Miyamoto’s career, and provided many of the Nintendo early days stories shared in Gamemaster Classified…
#Today in 1981, Nintendo released Donkey Kong, with two of the most famous characters in video game history. The game’s hero was originally called Jumpman, but was retroactively renamed Mario
So excited to finally share this. Just got my copy of @GamemasterH and @MatthewPTaranto 's new book, Gamemaster Classified!
As someone who is obviously obsessed with Nintendo Power but never got published in it, I was beyond excited when Howard reached out and asked me to contribute to the book. So pleased with the way everything turned out. Such a great read!
@borbobbery@ArtofNP@MatthewPTaranto Hi Bob - we did have to edit out some Classified Information stories as there are so many. BTW - zero plans for a second book - I hope this one makes you happy.
As for Stadium Events, not much of a story there, really. But if you ask again, I’ll post what I know in this thread…
@ArtofNP@GamemasterH@MatthewPTaranto I love the book, but I have 2 gripes. First is that Howard promised to spill the beans about what the story is with Stadium Events, and there’s no mention of it at all. Second is that it feels like he held back for a second book, there’s so much he left out. 10/10 regardless.
@ArtofNP@GamemasterH@MatthewPTaranto Book looks great! I was disappointed Howard Phillips didn't get a cameo in Apple's Tetris movie. The writers probably weren't readers of NP! A random extra wearing a bowtie would have been perfect. Howard Lincoln was portrayed with a potty mouth!😮
I'm proud to announce that GAMEMASTER CLASSIFIED is now available! Howard Phillips and I reveal through stories, reviews and comics what life was like at Nintendo in the 80s, all in a gorgeous 240 page hardcover with over 500 new illustrations!
