Thirty years of Pokémon. For me, it started slightly after the original release. A Game Boy. Pokémon Blue. Too many hours lost. These are all my own photos. I just wondered what would happen if that world quietly existed inside this one. Turns out I’m still looking for Pokémon

If you’ve followed me here for any length of time, you know I’m not anti-Solana or anti-contest. I’ve been on Solana for ~4 years. I’ve participated in events. I get the appeal. Contests are useful for exposure, momentum, and onboarding. That part works. What’s also predictable is the output. When everyone can see the entries and there’s something to win, artists naturally adjust, not toward risk or real creativity, but toward whatever already seems to be getting buzz. The result is a flood of similar work: recycled symbols, borrowed styles, neon gradients pretending to be futuristic, and captions doing more work than the images. I’m not saying this is a bad idea. As a veteran marketing guy, I get it. Launch an “art” contest and, for the price of a prize, you get a wave of brand-aligned visuals and social media buzz. That’s smart marketing. And Solana isn’t the only one doing this. Plenty of projects, companies, and organizations use the same tactic to generate buzz. It’s par for the course on-chain. To be clear: I don’t think anyone is being misleading or disingenuous here, artists or platforms. This is just how the format works. Just remember: if it’s meant to promote a brand, it’s advertising. Plain and simple. Calling it art doesn’t change the function. So go forth and create. Just be clear-eyed about what you’re really producing.

Most of my time recently has been spent editing rather than shooting. Today felt like a good excuse to step away from the desk, grab an ice cream, and take a slow walk along the front with the camera. Simple, but needed.
