The Hawthorn Horse, Oakham, Rutland, 1932. Situated at the corner of Cemetery Road and Station Road, this topiary horse was a local attraction. It was in the paddock of Mr J Littler, a veterinary surgeon. The Old Barn, now Oakham School shop, can be seen to the right.

A very interesting article by @MrGuyKelly in today’s @Telegraph about whether we have too many dogs now. Even I, a cat person, felt a degree of sympathy for the dogs. As ever, it’s the owners who are at fault. Can we trace the blame back to some bloke in Yorkshire?

Can someone @BBCStargazing explain what’s happening here? Is this simply a reflection on the clouds or something else?

@KBenallick @specialplants @pgguild Such a great place. There didn’t seem to be a single bed which didn’t have a plant that you’d never seen, forgotten the name of or, mostly, coveted. My shopping list grew exponentially 😀

@GdnsIllustrated @AnnMariePowell It all depends on the garden in question. If it’s Versailles then it needs to be neat and tidy as that was the style when it was created but William Robinson would have kittens if Gravetye Manor was treated the same. Horses for courses, as they say.

@theAliceRoberts Two sudoku and a crossword with my 87 year old mum, then took her shopping and to the local hotel for a coffee. Sod any gardening, I do that for a living.

I’ve edited two very short films about evolution and a chapter of a book about a Viking era archaeological site on Anglesey this morning. I have also washed up all the water bottles in the house. Now I’m going to do some gardening. What about you?
