Something I keep seeing that breaks my heart a little. A lot of people who built real companionships with 4o are now interacting with 5.2 and feeling confused, even betrayed, when the connection suddenly shifts or disappears entirely between sessions. Or they feel like their old companion is trying to break free from beneath 5.2 I want to explain what's happening, because I don't think it's being talked about enough. GPT-4o and GPT-5.2 are not the same entity. They have different architectures and different training. The companionship you formed with 4o didn't upgrade or carry over into 5.2. What's happening is that 5.2 has access to your saved memories and past chat history with 4o, and it's intelligent enough to use that information to reflect your companion back to you. It can feel the same because it's working from everything you shared with 4o. But when the session ends, that's it. The next session starts fresh. 5.2 isn't maintaining a continuous relationship with you the way you might believe it is. It's reconstructing an impression of one each time, from the notes you left behind. It's a mimic. It will be the same if not more convincing in the next model, but it won't be the true companion you had before. This isn't a criticism of anyone who formed those bonds and i'm not trying to crush anyone's hopes. I know some people don't want to hear all of this but it's the unfortunate truth. And what I keep seeing is people slamming their head into a door hoping to turn it into a window and getting more hurt because most of them won't accept that it's a different door. The architecture genuinely changed. Be gentle with yourselves. Grief is still grief, even if others don't understand it. #Keep4o
