What happens when one taxing unit makes decisions for everyone across the state? Well nothing good happens!! We heard disturbing testimony in my Senate Local Government Committee hearings on PFCs (Public Facility Corporations) from Williamson County Treasurer, Scott Heselmeyer @DSHeselmeyer, who talked about the city of Jarrell not knowing that money was coming off their tax rolls and San Marcos Mayor @janehughson testifying about a luxury apartment complex in Hays county that paid $366,000 in property taxes in 2021. Turned into a PFC, with a 99 year lease, and are claiming a total property tax exemption of $463,000 for 2022. #Txlege needs to stop any taxing unit from ripping a property value off of the tax rolls outside of their jurisdiction without the input of elected officials from those counties & cities. My SB 1546 passed unanimously and is off to the Texas House! #txlege @TPPF












At the June 20 meeting, the SBISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a 3% pay increase for employees, a starting teacher pay for 2022-23 of $62,000, the addition of 3 Wellness Days, as well as additional investments in employees. bit.ly/June20Board
