Never were truer words said @WilliamJHague

It was so lovely to get the A-Team back together last night. These amazing colleagues achieved so much for local government when we worked together at @LGAcomms Great to see you @DennisSkinner2, Sally Burlington, Nicky Old, Claire Holloway, @SJPickup and Ian Hughes.

BREAKING: Labour Devolution minister Miatta Fahnbulleh says the Housing Department is pushing for tourist taxes and ‘putting a very good case … They’re not going to get a rejection from MHCLG. It’s a question of persuading the Treasury’ (@GuidoFawkes) order-order.com/2025/09/29/exc…

Today the Government has decided to - in grand recess tradition - brazenly reannounce an announcement they already announced back in March.

🚙 ✈️ Appointment as Shadow Transport Secretary ⛴️ 🚊 It is an honour to have been appointed Shadow Transport Secretary. I will work to drive forward the kind of changes that really make a difference for drivers, rail users and passengers and also for our commercial aviation, logistics, haulage and shipping sectors. As a backbencher I fought against and won a reversal of a Road Tax increase. As Roads and Local Transport Minister in the last @Conservatives Government, I extended the £2 bus fare cap and helped ensure it was a clear Conservative manifesto commitment. A commitment Labour did not match as they abandoned the policy in Government. Drivers, passengers and the whole transport sector have a Conservative Team who are on their side and who will always put them and what works first. Time and again, this Government has shown that it puts ideology and party politics ahead of what actually helps passengers. Under my brief, I will work with fellow Conservative MPs to push for reliable, affordable, joined‑up transport that genuinely serves people’s lives and local communities. Ahead of the next election I will also hold the Government’s decisions to account on every aspect of transport policy for the U.K. and internationally. I am looking forward to getting stuck in!
