Back in the early 90s, before the Internet, we had "Defrag and Chill". You'd start Disk Defragmenter on your 540MB hard drive, dim the lights, crack open a Surge, and just vibe while the little blue bars crawled across the screen like they were solving world peace. Forty-five minutes of pure, unfiltered anticipation. No notifications. No algorithms. Just the two of you, the gentle grinding of the hard drive, and the sacred promise that your Solitaire games were about to feel 3% snappier. This is MS_DOS 6.22, which I worked on, but I honestly have no idea who wrote defrag. Iconic utility though!

Public blockchains will never achieve mass institutional adoption. Not because of regulation. Because of transparency. @F_ZK_Now from @MidnightNtwrk names the real barrier: every public chain exposes every transaction, every balance, every behavioral pattern. AI will eventually doxx every wallet. Banks will never put client assets on infrastructure where everything becomes public. Permissioned private chains don't solve it either. They become siloed databases no better than the centralized systems they were supposed to replace. The "fourth generation" of blockchain adds the missing layer: privacy. Midnight builds a permissionless private network where institutions create their own compliant domains, control access, define rules, and privately transact with each other. Public blockchain's trustlessness with private data controls. The use cases already extend beyond finance: supply chain, forensic evidence, healthcare clinical trials. Every category handling sensitive data needs both blockchain's auditability and privacy that public chains can't deliver.
