Happy birthday to American actor Nick Robinson 🥳 Known for his portrayal of Simon Spier in the film 'Love, Simon', Robinson has spoken about his decision to play a gay role as a straight actor. Speaking with GQ Magazine about the film, he said "Initially, I thought that maybe making this movie was not my place." He continued to say "Representation is a powerful thing, and I can understand people wanting to be represented on screen by people that they feel represent them in real life." However, he said that the film's director, Greg Berlanti, was "adamant" that he was right for the role. 📷 Getty 📷 20th Century Studios

John Rechy (b. 10 March 1931) is a pioneering novelist and essayist renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to gay and Chicano literature. He is most famous for his 1963 debut novel, City of Night, which became an international bestseller and a landmark work for its unflinching portrayal of the gay underground and street hustler culture in America. He is also considered a founding author of Mexican-American literature. His novel The Miraculous Day of Amalia Gomez (1991) is a staple in Chicano studies across the country. Rechy has published over 17 books -- in addition to City of Night and Amalia Gomez, his other notable works include Numbers (1967), The Sexual Outlaw (1977), and After the Blue Hour (2017), which won the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Fiction. He has also received numerous additional honors, including (in 1997) the PEN-USA-West’s Lifetime Achievement Award (the first novelist to receive this honor); in 2016, the first annual Los Angeles Review of Books/UCR Creative Writing Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2018, the Robert Kirsch Award (recognized for his lifetime achievement in the Mexican-American and LGBTQ literary communities), and in 2020, The Texas Institute of Letters Lon Tinkle Lifetime Achievement Award. Even after attaining literary fame, Rechy continued to work as a prostitute into his forties, balancing a life of "hustling at night" while teaching creative writing at UCLA during the day. His work has frequently explored the lives of sexual and social outsiders and helped shape the consciousness of several generations of gay men. And for that, today we wish a happy, well-deserved 95th birthday to John Rechy.

ᴠ ɪ ɴ ᴛ ᴀ ɢ ᴇ Jack's Place down at Madeira Beach, Florida, was the spot to be back in the 1950s and '60s if you were part of a certain fun-loving crowd, that is! 😉 The photo below (upscaled for your viewing pleasure) was snapped in the early '60s by a guy named Bobby Smith.

Tragic gay comic English actor and Joe Orton pal Kenneth Williams was BOTD in 1926 & died in 1988 at 62. He succumbed to an O.D. of barbiturates. His last diary entry "Oh, what's the bloody point?" led many to believe he took his own life due to chronic ill health and depression
