47 feels great, with gratitude being the primary emotion today. Would you say thank you to God for me, please?

Girls grow up to see things that don't make sense and are told that's how they've always been, or that God made it like that for a reason. Finding precedent in the Bible gave me ginger as a child. Me: look God said they were right! If it doesn't make sense we can change it.

@Gbemisoke If I didn’t drink today’s coffee, the coffee would have felt abandoned.

My favorite rationalization is that if I didn't do it someone else would have anyway, so...

Last last I have to live with myself. After I rationalize & perform for strangers, I still have to deal with the incongruence & resulting emotional distress. Do I love myself enough to prioritize my wellbeing? Or is being seen as good more important? These are the questions.

I know it's not as simple in practice & things can be complicated. what if the fukkup was major & I want to avoid the consequence of my poor choices? There might still be a need to perform for the audience. I won't put it past myself to lie to others. But will I lie to myself?

Needing to be (seen as) a good person will have you twisting yourself into a pretzel, performing for strangers on the internet. You're a person. You do good shit & bad shit & fukkup from time to time. Gotta to be ok with that so you can move from shame to guilt & recover quickly

Maybe externalize as a cope? blame it on the brain. It's not you trying to be bad, it's your brain helping you protect your self esteem and maintain a positive self image. The guilt has to be relieved somehow. You're human after all. That's a lot better for your mental than BSing

Of course we're going to try to rationalize our choices, it's how we reduce the discomfort of cognitive dissonance. No one is exempt from it, so let's just spare ourselves the debate. Just know you're doing it and own it with your full chest. Come on!

Reflection questions: is compassion available for more than one person in these scenarios? How can we work through complex human interactions with compassion for ourselves AND others? Are they deserving? Are we? What would living that out practically look like for you and I?

Kid at the autism clinic I used to work at would spit, then point & laugh, expecting a reaction. Function of the behavior was attention so we knew not to react, but a coworker instinctively shoved him & got fired. He got me one time & I ignored but I went to the restroom & cried
