Parents who don't want to replicate harmful patterns will still do so if they don't learn what to do instead. Cruelty DOES NOT teach replacement behavior, that's why I don't deploy it as a parent. But I know what to do instead. That's why I share. Learning gaps NEED to be closed

Had to go look for this free session I offered on how to discipline without hitting. It was 6 years ago. Maybe it will help someone who's looking for practical tools youtu.be/5Xi6QUjFxbI?is…

I hope these conversations lead us to reflect & review how we parent. The downside of rationalizing harm done to us (which is one way of coping with our own experiences) is that we're more likely to repeat the pattern. Please be kind to yourself, then commit to being better❤️

"I love my parents but..." in this paper, I will explore the painful dichotomy of loving an abusive parent. The personal, agonizing clash between the hardwired attachment to the person who gave you life & the undeniable reality of the harm they inflicted in the name of discipline

Discipline being the disguise for sheer wickedness towards children, when it means to disciple, guide & teach💔 These awfully painful experiences people are sharing about being harmed by parents, what did they learn? Violence? That they're deserving of harm? What's the outcome?

All this pain from the parents who were supposed to love us 💔 how are we going to recover? How are we not going to repeat the patterns? why does it all feel so dismal? 🥹

The hill I'm building my mansion on is that the person who needs discipline is the adult whose only parenting tools are cruelty & violence. The self restraint we expect of children, do we even have it?

as soon as I pat myself on the back as a parent, someone will do something that will make me question my sanity. Like clockwork & it low-key makes me want to not make the high points a big deal but I stubbornly fight for my right to celebrate the good times because if not???

@rotilaw that would require self reflection, which they've sadly demonstrated a severe lack of. Deciding that what they've read can mean ONLY what they've interpreted it to mean, then using that as an excuse to throw jabs, is normal now. Such a shame, when conversations can be had.

@Gbemisoke KaI! If you are the recipient of this message, you are likely to wake up suddenly in the middle of the nature and you will stay up ruminating about it.

As if having such a limited view of the world such that the range of your commentary on issues is limited to good person Vs bad person is not pathetic enough, you're talking to me sideways for thinking differently? Be assured of my deepest sympathy for your condition.
