The car pictured on the opening spread of our photo essay by Daido Moriyama in Edition 17, 'Tales from Japan', was... a late-1970s Nissan Cedric (it was also sold as the Gloria in the domestic Japanese market). Congrats to Kevin Dobbs and Jan Einar Krakevik for getting it right.
