Today, we are about to gather to honor and celebrate the life of my beloved mother-in-law, Cedell Goffney. As the first daughter-in-law in the family, she embraced me with the same love she had for her own six children. In the early years of our marriage, she literally took care of Joseph and me, always making sure we had food to eat and groceries in the refrigerator. She was a constant source of support. She babysat both our kids for their first three years of their lives. And while I pursued my master's and doctorate degrees and had class twice per week in the evenings, she took care of my husband and two kids. When Joseph was elevated to pastor of the church she co-founded with Bishop, mother-in-law had modeled what it meant to be a First Lady of the church. As the Overseer of Missionaries, she guided the women of the ministry with her grace and wisdom. She truly was the epitome of a virtuous woman—a remarkable wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother. We will miss her dearly. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
