Except Im not. I design rail systems for a living. 1.03 trillion at BEST. 66 trains X 300 million That is 19.8 billion already and they havent built a mile. Minimum right ow with material costs is going to be 2.5 million a mile and that doesnt even include the cost of the land, the surveys, the grading, the preparation thaht has to happen more than a year in advance. You cant just slap down a HSR system like a regular one. Buying the land alone would be a financial nightmare for California, realestate expersts are putting the cost of acquisition fro the proposed route at 3-4 hundred billion. Then there are environmental studies that take YEARS.

AND, worse yet, the original contrcats for building the trains themselves (originally estimated at 180 million each) went to a company that has been bought out by Bombardier Rail Service Division, same company that now owns Amtrak and most regionals like MARC in DC. They have indicated that they will renegotiate the contract when the time comes. Sources within Bombardier put the actual cost to build the trains today at between 300-400 million. EACH. The plans require 66 trains. 19.8 billion just in trains alone...
