@WhatmattersinG @VoterGa I don’t understand “excused” what’s that mean, did they have to go to the doctor for a life threatening injury or family emergency? Did they have car trouble or a flat tire on the way in? What was so important that they had to be “excused” from such an important vote?

@GenXTanker @VoterGa Kay Kirkpatrick and Chuck Huftstetler were excused for the SB568 vote. Sam Watson (Ethics Chair who should have championed the bill) and Governor’s Floor Leader Bo Hatchett were excused hours earlier.

SB568, Georgia’s best election security bill in two years, came two votes short of 29 needed for passing the Senate on crossover primarily due to Sen. Frank Ginn and Republican absentees. Sen. Ginn proudly joined the new wave of anti-security Democrats to be the only Republican to oppose the bill. In fairness, the bill needed more work when it reached the House but voting against it killed all of these security provisions that the bill provided: 1. Hand-marked paper ballots that eliminate unverifiable, illegal QR code voting 2. Comprehensive audits to help detect vote count errors 3. True recounts in close races to help ensure election results are correct 4. Ballot batch identifiers to help detect unauthorized duplication of ballots 5.
