New Paper: "Isolation, small population size, and management influence inbreeding and reduced genetic variation in K’gari dingoes" Stoked to have been part of this process and project with a bunch of amazing researchers. doi.org/10.1007/s10592… #Kgari #dingo

@MartinMurray_Ag Problem is - I think the ticket in is to write a book. Which I definitely don’t have time for 😂

Today, I used the wifi signal from a GPS collar hub in the middle of nowhere to control my robo-vacuum at home. I was with the hub engineer, he was a bit off it… I think it was a good use of resources. This tweet also comes via the hub. #remote #wildoz #ecology

Does anyone know someone working on an field guide type app for the mammals of Australia? Particularly terrestrial sp. like rodents and marsupials? Would be good to have location set with lists of local mammal sp. similar to Frogs and Snakes of Aus and birding apps. Cheers!

@timbawden @hpmilne Bit hard to believe one doesn't already exist. If you two start making one, I'll be happy to collaborate! 😉

Some days at the “office” are better than others. This one was pretty good.

The last paper from my PhD is published, only a couple of years late. Using kinship estimates to show movement between colonies of rock-wallabies. Thanks to my Co-authors Mark Lethbridge, Ben Allen and @RoseLAndrew for all the help. You can read it here: doi.org/10.1007/s10592…

@hpmilne Thanks for that Heath. I’d love to go have a look. Are they in an area accessible to the public? Would you be willing to share the location with another Orchidophile? As you know, I’m quite partial to an orchid.

@GeneEcoDeane Thanks Deane, appreciate the engagement. Certainly can, this species flowers from November to January and typically starts later than the Guyra and Northern Tablelands forms of the D. spp aff alba, meaning you can find them well into summer in some locations, an absolute treat!

A new Diuris for me, described by Lachlan Copeland, he currently lists it as a Diuris sp. aff. alba (Swamps) “New England Donkey Orchid”. Found in a small area of the NTs it can be locally common, such as the place we found these, with 1-200 plants in a 100m2 area. Epic stuff!

@open5book @ApplebyAppleby I think too often agricultural land is discounted as having no use to conservation when it could support heathly populations of threatened species, but maybe just at lower densities. A few is better than none right? Here is a paper that might interest you: tinyurl.com/vv9wfwsw

@GeneEcoDeane @ApplebyAppleby Puzzling: threatened species to be encouraged onto predator-free lands used for livestock production. For burrowing marsupials, the compacted land and hoofs would be a problem (as motor vehicles are to kowaris in SW Qld)?

New version of dartR (2.0.3) is now on Cran. [It takes about a day or two until all mirrors are updated, so be patient or install from CRAN or github from source]. for more specifics check this: georges.biomatix.org/blog/post/dart… Happy dart(e)ring

Taking a night walk through South West Rocks was fruitful! Young dingo relying on some anthropogenic food provision, and a little frogmouth! #WildOz Apologies for the iPhone picture quality.
