Happy Pi Day! 🥧✨ We take Pi Day very seriously at General Fusion. So seriously, in fact, that every year we hold a pie bake‑off. This year’s champion baker? Raymond Oosterom, who wowed the judges with an unforgettable Pi Day themed apple pie! A true triumph of pastry engineering. And thank you to our runner-ups, Kelly Epp and Ryan Underwood for their incredible entries! But Pi Day isn’t just about dessert for us. It’s also a chance to celebrate PI3, the world’s largest and most powerful operational fusion plasma injector. Commissioned in 2017, PI3 has formed hundreds of thousands of plasmas and now serves as the plasma injector for LM26!

What is Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF)? Our MTF technology is a uniquely practical approach to fusion that addresses critical barriers to fusion energy. It uses mechanical compression to create fusion conditions in short pulses, which eliminates the need for expensive lasers or superconducting magnets. Additionally, an MTF power plant is designed to produce its own fuel and inherently includes a method to extract the energy and put it to work. We had the honour of hosting U.S. Consul General Shawn Crowley and Political & Economic Officer Karina Veras at General Fusion headquarters last week. It was a pleasure to show them our labs and real machines with real results. Collaboration is essential to our long-term success, and we’re proud to work with many leading institutions in the United States, including the U.S. Department of Energy, @ORNL, @SRNLab, the @PPPLab, the @d3dfusion, and @Livermore_Lab. Fusion has the power to transform how we energize the world, and strong partnerships are key to unlocking its full potential.

At the FusionX:Global Summit in Munich, our Chief Strategy Officer, Megan Wilson, held a fireside chat with FusionX Group CEO Stuart Allen and reinforced what has always defined General Fusion’s approach: a clear path to delivering practical, economical fusion energy to the grid. “From the beginning, fundamentally, General Fusion has been focused on pursuing not just fusion science, but fusion power, meaning approaching technical results with fusion in a way that translates to a practical, affordable power plant,” Megan said. Megan also spoke on our recently announced business combination agreement with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III, highlighting that the transaction ensures General Fusion has the capital in place to achieve transformational milestones with LM26. Conferences like the FusionX:Global Summit create valuable opportunities to connect with collaborators and partners across the global fusion ecosystem. It was a pleasure to meet with our Science and Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) Chair and former CEO of EUROfusion, Antonius Donné, on the sidelines of the summit. Our STAC provides independent review and input on our technical plans, results, and technology roadmap. We’re grateful to Tony and our STAC members for their continued expertise and guidance as we move closer to delivering fusion power to the grid.

General Fusion’s global Market Development Advisory Committee (MDAC) is a group of potential end users who collaborate with us on technology development and commercialization. Earlier this month, our Director of Strategic Partnerships, Myles Hildebrand, met with our MDAC member, @Renexia_it in Rome to provide an update on our LM26 program and our commercialization timeline. We’re proud to have Renexia as a strong and engaged partner on the MDAC. Renexia has a long history of being a first-mover on clean energy projects. Their commitment to advancing clean, renewable energy aligns closely with our mission, and our conversations with them continue to highlight the critical role fusion can play in a sustainable global energy mix.

Our Vice President of External Relations, Grace Peach, joined a fusion roundtable with industry and government leaders to discuss the key near-term steps needed to bring fusion energy to the grid—sharing General Fusion’s story and our progress toward a first-of-a-kind fusion power plant by the mid-2030s. The IEA Energy Innovation Forum brings together global leaders to advance energy innovation, and we were excited to see fusion in the spotlight this year.
