@General_Oluchi You are very wrong Firstly, Shell employs graduates every year Available slots are determined by business needs, not just by qualified candidates.

Shell Nigeria runs a competitive graduate program that receives 30,000 - 50,000 applications yearly yet they only accept 6 - 10 candidates. Just because they aren’t screaming about it doesn’t mean something isn’t happening. Can you tell me why only 6 - 10 applicants qualify from 5,000 people? Again, we need to have serious discussions devoid of emotions.

@General_Oluchi But over 500 roles and could not find Nigerians to fill them? To fill any of them or spell of them? If he could not find any Nigerian to fill even a role out of over 500, then he is not being real.

Napping alone in the living room puts one in a vulnerable position. Someone could sneak into the house and slit your throat, or cover your nose from behind and you wouldn’t know how to fight it.

@General_Oluchi I am not sure of your figures but I can imagine how high the applications must be for a company like Shell especially in a country like Nigeria. I expect the number of applications to also be high in developed countries maybe not as high as in Nigeria for some reasons. 👇🏿

I came across a video of a lash technician who operates from her car. She travels to her clients and they sit in the passenger side of the car, bend the chair backward, and she sits behind them to do the job. She has all her tools in the car. By doing this, she saves thousands of dollars in renting a shop, or paying utility bills. She works by appointment only. I love when people find innovative ways to do things.

@General_Oluchi If the laws are repealed. They will have nothing to stand on. A person arrested and detained for laws that do not exist could challenge their actions in Court. As mentioned, the focus should be on repealing the laws.

Nigerians should be aware that the police force is still weaponizing the 2015 Cybercrime Act which requires them to arrest anyone for cybercrime upon receiving a petition. This Act was amended in 2024 to stop the police from arresting and detaining civilians without a court order, but it’s still in use to date. Amnesty International has called them out severally, but this is Nigeria! I tweeted about this years ago. That being said, you guys should be aware of this aggressive law. All it takes is a petition for investigation from Tony or any influential person in the society to get this boy arrested even if Tony didn’t formally request for it. And of course, the boy’s tweet is disgusting. Seeing Tony’s daughters and immediately thinking of HIV and losing their virginity is morbid for an 18 year old writing JAMB. x.com/Nimisioluwa/st…

I think you need to fact-check statements before eating them. Just because Moniepoint is “registered” in the UK doesn’t make it a multinational company. It doesn’t have branches globally and their product is utilized mostly in Nigeria. Also, don’t compare them to shell, mobil, etc. Secondly, Moniepoint runs talent programs like DreamDevs (bootcamp selecting ~20 from 9,000+ applicants. So you can’t say they aren’t investing in talents. So they are training local talent. I checked their website and they currently have 81 open positions. Nigeria has a huge unemployment issue among youths, and even these companies you mentioned are not filling that gap. Shell has a graduate program that only accept less than 1% of applicants. People are rejected for so many reasons, mostly qualification, yet this is a country that churns out graduates in droves. They also don’t disclose their number of workforce annually. So when you say they hire 80% local, what is that number? 1,000? 2,000? In a population or 200 million? They don’t announce it publicly either but th news is out there. Why is that? That’s the question. Counting how many people work where, isn’t relevant. After all, the same money point have mostly Nigerian employees too. I will end my submission with this: Nigerians must have serious conversations about these issues before fighting.

You're the one saying this. Moniepoint CEO said they're a global company competing in a global market. They're registered in the UK by the way, and they have staff there too. But whether they are a multi-national or not, is irrelevant. What's important is that businesses in Nigeria largely do not have proper talent pipelines in place. We just don't have that corporate culture of investing in building local talent to meet global standards. Btw, Shell has over 80% local talent. It's a similar case with ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, First E&P, Aradel, Newcross, etc.

Dangote said the same thing years ago after launching his refinery. Then he hired thousands of foreigners to head critical departments and teams. Some other companies and recruiters have hinted something similar. Those reacting defensively by saying Nigerians work abroad, do this or that, don’t understand the issues. I mean, Donald Trump and Elon Musk said Americans lacked skills in certain fields and that’s why the H1-B visa can’t be eliminated. Does it mean that Americans don’t work at all or work in major organizations? Are they not heading companies globally? Instead of being defensive, it’s time that Nigerians have a honest discussion with these companies to understand what they mean by global standard. What are they really looking for? If you don’t confront it, you will keep losing out of opportunities.

To prevent security agencies from weaponising, arresting, and detaining civilians on the issue of defamation, efforts should be made towards repealing the laws criminalising defamatory statements or actions in Nigeria. Until then, a complainant reserves the right to decide to pursue criminal or civil proceedings or both, where needed.

That is why I ended my submission by saying people need to have a discussion with the company to understand why they are rejecting Nigerian workers or even refusing to train them. Journalists can ask these questions for clarity. What are those roles they are unable to fill? As I already mentioned, Trump said the same about Americans which was unexpected.

@General_Oluchi Are they building rocket spacerocket🚀 that they cannot find 500 workers to fill those spaces? I can agree that there is some equipment that requires special technicians from the manufacturer to install but not demarketing a country with over 240m are not employable.

Some of the companies you listed a multi-national companies that employ globally. Some are remote and they don’t need to announce how many foreign workers they employ. So ranking them with a small company like Monipoint is a miss. Overall, I’d like to know the data you are using to compare their individual workforce globally. How many Nigerians vs foreigners work for them?

Dangote's refinery is in the same industry where Shell, Chevron, ExonMobil, Aradel, Newcross, ANOH Gas, NNPC, etc operates. All of which work with local talent. How do they do it? How did Shell come into Nigeria at a time no one in the country knew anything about oil exploration and still managed to recruit local talent, that in just a few years, locals were running key operations in the company? They were willing to invest in building talent pipelines. Most companies in Nigeria don't want to do that. How then are people supposed to be skilled to the level you require? How many tech companies in Nigeria operate on a truly global scale? So where and how are they supposed to get this "global standard" experience? Moniepoint that should be a responsible leader in the tech industry, just like Shell has been for the oil & gas industry, is running away claiming devs prefer to patronize oscroh. I've seen some of the requirements for the roles Moniepoint listed on their career page and it's obvious they're either genuinely not looking for local talent or, like some have suggested, it's just a gimmick to show investors that they're growing.
