This one is actually the UC Davis Frankensyp - that was only fixed in time to go to Oregon because Adem et al were happy to answer dozens of email from me asking for technical help in infinitesimal steps. Installing a SYP autosampler (@wegeochem) at @OregonCavesNPS with @UCDavisResearch PhD student, Kesego Letshele. The autosampler will quietly collect drip water without disturbing the hibernating 🦇 population this winter @OSUCEOAS

Re-syped our cave, Crystal 67, for winter 2024. It'll be the third season this lone water ranger will spend slurping water 150 meters under a giant sequoia forest. This time, we also got to take our lab's undergrads (Jocelyn and Branden) with us! Expect their work @theAGU 24

@SarahMackAttack Love the ring bit. Not so much the Paleoclimte bit. Not because it can't be true, but because it's hand wavey. It's the opening statement for the next paper and felt forced (especially after reading a gizillion well consdturcted pages on one hypothesis)

Also, just gonna drop a quick little fun fact here, rings (like Saturn’s) are not always there! They can slowly dissipate. Saturn’s rings have been there for less time than earth has had sharks. Sharks predate Saturns rings! It’s one of my favorite shark facts.

I was talking with people I didn’t know & I mentioned the earth-maybe-had-a-ring paper, & nobody had heard yet. As a science communicator, I obviously understand how our info stays in bubbles, but I’m still kinda surprised this news hadn’t broken through yet! It’s so cool!

@wegeochem EV public transportation is. EV cars are useful for some things, but you would and should not need so many (particularly privately owned). EV trucks are.. trucks.

Driving an EV is not a political statement. It's an economically rational and ecologically minded choice. ⚡️

Our combined flights back from Mongolia took 29 hours. On our last leg, 2hr flight from Brussels to Edinburgh @FlyingBrussels was charging for drinks and snacks, and they have lost one piece of our luggage 🙁 I don’t think I will fly with them again. #poorservice

How I published zero first-author papers during 2023: - All the data were already collected - 5 papers could have come from all that data - I read mostly manuscripts I am reviewing and student assignments - I write mostly emails
