I wrote a little novel during the pandemic and finally got around to self-publishing it. It’s a medieval adventure/rebellion story, set on the south Mediterranean coast, with a few battles and a journey. There’s a free sample if you want to check it out! amazon.com/Shield-Brighte…

You will live on the AI slop farm. You’ll have 10,000 acres and your front door will lead directly to a small 8x8 foot swamp. Three horses will drink from the water, with decapitated jockeys on their backs. One of your horses will be the longest horse in the world. Your fences will kind of veer off into the grass from time to time. There’s three shutters on some of your windows and a shutter to the left of your front door. You have no driveway and you own no Gucci bags. You are happy.

My coworker used to take the long way home every night. Two extra bus stops, more walking, more money, more time. One day I asked her why she didn’t just take the shortcut alley behind our building. She laughed and said, “Oh, because a guy followed me there once and told me he could ‘do whatever he wanted’ and no one would hear me scream.” So now, every night, she calls a male friend and pretends she’s on the phone with her “boyfriend.” Sometimes she even laughs loudly and says things like, “Yeah, I’ll see you in five minutes, babe,” even when she’s completely alone. Not because she wants attention. Not because she’s dramatic. Because sounding “taken” and “protected” is safer than sounding like a woman by herself. Men cannot even begin to understand the calculations women make every day just to get home alive.

This is terrifying, possibly the most dangerous moment for the world since the Cuban Missile Crisis
Patricia Marins@pati_marins64

US-Israel nuclear trap Under immense global economic pressure and facing a domestic inflation crisis, President Trump,in coordination with Israel, made the fateful decision on March 21 to bomb the Iranian nuclear facility at Natanz. Iran has interpreted this strike as a deliberate attempt by the coalition to trigger a catastrophic nuclear incident, a “shortcut” to victory through environmental and humanitarian disaster. This bombardment follows only days after a projectile struck the vicinity of the Bushehr reactor, sparking widespread protests. Yesterday, Iran retaliated with a heavy strike on Dimona, home to Israel’s most critical nuclear reactor. There is no doubt that the Iranian most modern arsenal, possesses some precision-guided missiles capable of striking Dimona reactor, and the reverse is equally true. We are witnessing a terrifying escalation, with both nations trading threats of triggering a nuclear incident. This is the definition of wartime insanity. The situation is further complicated by the fact that Iran has not been inspected for nearly nine months, more than enough time to have clandestinely developed a nuclear weapon. Technically, Iran is already an ambiguous nuclear power; it possesses the chemical material, the technology means, the timeframe, and at least 4 to 6 models of modern dual-capable missiles designed to carry nuclear warheads. What if this ends in a nuclear exchange? We must recognize the sheer madness this senseless war is driving us toward. At no point has the conflict de-escalated. On the contrary, the range and sophistication of Iranian missile launches continue to expand. The coalition’s munitions are running low, yet Iran keeps firing; The war is becoming prohibitively expensive; inflation is surging in U.S and in the world; Gulf nations face billion-dollar losses; Asian allies are undersupplied; the Strait remains blocked; and the bombings have failed to produce the desired effect, With falling war popularity and elections approaching for Trump, and Netanyahu seeking a judicial reprieve, the pressure is mounting. This pressure is fertile ground for nuclear escalation, the dangerous belief in a “magic bullet” that could end all problems in few hours. However, in Iran’s case, this may only invite a devastating retaliation from hardened silos using nuclear weapons that, at a basic level, could be assembled in a week. By targeting Natanz, the coalition has already violated Article 56 of the Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids attacks on nuclear facilities, -Even militaries -, due to the risk of “releasing dangerous forces.” They are opening a nuclear door that is escalating faster than anticipated, and if not contained now, the fallout will be far greater than anyone predicted. My recent Interview 1- t.co/TzuDZn03Lt your analysis of the Strait of Hormuz, you argue that Iran’s geographic and military positioning makes the strait almost impenetrable in the current configuration. From a purely military standpoint, what are the specific capabilities, missiles, mines, drones or terrain advantages, that give Iran such leverage over this chokepoint? The first point to highlight is the local geography and how effectively Iran exploits it. If you look at a photo of the Strait of Hormuz from the Iranian side, you’ll see the strait is flanked by mountains. Coupled with this, bathymetric data shows an average depth of 50–70 meters. This makes large vessels and submarines highly vulnerable, while favoring Iranian midget submarines, fast attack crafts (FACs), mines, USVs, and UUVs. The Iranian arsenal is tailor-made for this type of warfare: ambushing enemies in the strait using midget subs, missile-armed fast boats, surface drones, undersea drones, and anti-ship missiles. Specifically regarding underwater drones, we are talking about modern assets up to 8 meters long, powered by lithium batteries and featuring high-stealth capabilities, such as the Azhdar. In the last five years alone, the Persians have commissioned between 250 and 300 fast boats equipped with missiles ranging from 25 to 300 km, such as the Ghadir missiles found on modern Zulfiqar-class boats. Furthermore, Iran appears to have already mined the strait, leaving only a narrow corridor close to its own territory, rendering any transiting vessel extremely vulnerable. Many of these missile and drone positions are housed in 'mini-bunkers' embedded within the mountain ranges flanking the strait. Imagine everything described above supported by aerial drones and anti-ship missiles. To top it off, in January 2026, the IRGCN revealed a network of undersea missile tunnels and coastal bases designed to deploy fast boats and naval drones from protected shelters. I do not believe any commander would force entry into that strait. 2 - t.co/spHUGxxMr9 suggest that Iran has been able to dictate the tempo of the conflict while continuing to export oil and influence global markets. Do you believe Tehran is deliberately managing escalation to weaponize uncertainty in energy markets without triggering a full closure of Hormuz? Yes, and they do so strategically, planning for a protracted war of attrition. With market volatility and surging oil prices, Iran is ramping up political pressure on Trump, who is also facing pushback from Gulf nations suffering billions in losses and a stifled energy industry. Companies like QatarEnergy have completely halted LNG production, Aramco is operating at half capacity, and Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC has significantly scaled back operations. This is not to mention Big Tech and the financial sector, which have also reduced their footprint in the Gulf following Iranian threats. The Persians are waging an asymmetric war of external and internal politico-economic pressure against their adversaries, to the point where their success is becoming evident. They are managing the generated chaos, biding their time to announce the closure of the other strategic chokepoint, Bab el-Mandeb, via the Houthis.

Terrific work by Mr Martinez and his colleagues. “Although it was defeated this time, the Ford government has repeatedly shown that it is prepared to disregard the spirit of the Charter and silence voices it disagrees with - especially where Palestine is concerned.”

Brief reflections on Premier Ford's attempt to stop Al-Quds Day in Toronto 🇵🇸 At 2:30pm yesterday, Premier Ford announced "I've instructed my Attorney General to pursue an injunction against the Al-Quds Day demonstration planned for Toronto." Our volunteer legal team had less than a day to prepare our position on behalf of the Al-Quds Day Committee, but we set to work. Challenging the injunction application would not have been possible without the dedicated work of lawyers, law students, and activists who joined together to strategize, draft submissions, and assemble the necessary documents. This all had to be done without having Ontario's materials, which we received approximately one hour before the injunction application was set to be heard today. There did not appear to be any legitimate reason for the province's 11th hour strategy. It simply made the entire process unnecessarily complex for everyone involved. In our submissions, we argued that Ontario's application was politically motivated, and that it relied on baseless fearmongering and anti-Palestinian rhetoric in lieu of a meaningful evidentiary record. At para. 16 of its decision, the Court found that: "...there is no evidence in the record that there were criminal charges arising out of last year’s Al Quds rally in Toronto, or at the rallies in any of the prior 30 years. There is no evidence that participants at last year's rally incited hatred or engaged in hate speech. There is no evidence before me of any criminality arising out of this rally in the past, much less evidence that could satisfy me that there is a "strong case" that there will be criminal activity this year." Although it was defeated this time, the Ford government has repeatedly shown that it is prepared to disregard the spirit of the Charter and silence voices it disagrees with - especially where Palestine is concerned. Freedom of expression and assembly prevailed today. Vigilance and community solidarity are required to ensure that it prevails tomorrow.

Rabbi David Mivasair
Rabbi David Mivasair@RabbiMivasair·
I was asked just before Shabbat to provide a personal statement which a lawyer will draft into an affidavit to block the Zionist request for an injunction to block the Al Quds Day rally in Toronto tomorrow. Because this is one of my communities here, I want to share here what I wrote: _ _ _ I am Rabbi David Mivasair, a 74-year-old retired Canadian rabbi currently residing in Hamilton, Ontario. I served for nearly 25 years as the spiritual leader of two Vancouver synagogues, as a spiritual care provider for the Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia and the chaplain of the largest homeless shelter in British Columbia about fifteen years ago. I am a member of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association. I also hold a Master of Social Work degree and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity. I have lived in Israel for four years and have returned a number of times to support the work on the ground there for peace and justice for everyone living in that land. I speak, read and write Hebrew and have been directly, personally involved with Israel and Palestine for well over fifty years. I am very aware of real antisemitism in our society. And, I am very aware of the intentional misuse of accusations of antisemitism for political reasons in our society as well. I am directly, personally familiar with the Al Quds Day rally in Toronto. I was a speaker at the Al Quds Day rally on April 15, 2023. I was invited by the organizers to speak at the rally as a rabbi, as exactly who I am. I am a Jew, a rabbi and, at this time in my life, I am an anti-Zionist, which is a perfectly legitimate position for anyone to hold on the question of Israel and Palestine. When I spoke at the Al Quds Day rally in 2023, other rabbis spoke there as well, as they do every year. Like me, they are also anti-Zionist Jews. None of us are anti-Jewish or antisemitic in any way. That is a preposterous proposition. Zionist organizations promote the belief that the Al Quds Day rally is antisemitic in order to shut down the public expression of completely legitimate political speech. There is absolutely no danger to any Jews anywhere because of what is said and done at the Al Quds Day rally. No one there expresses any intention to hurt any Jews in any way. There is no advocacy of violence. At the Al Quds Day rally there are calls for the elimination of the State of Israel. I myself make those calls. The State of Israel is a thoroughly racist endeavor which was founded on the expulsion and elimination of the majority of the Palestinian population of Palestine in 1948. It continues at the present to enforce on Palestinians over whom it rules a regime which most objective observers agree is accurately described as apartheid. And even at this very time, the State of Israel is conducting war crimes and what is determined by most experts to be a genocide against Palestinians. Calls for the elimination of the State of Israel are calls for it to be replaced by a state in which all are equal, just as in Canada. The elimination of the State of Israel is not synonymous with the elimination of or any harm to the Jewish population in Israel or any Jews anywhere in any way. It is simply the call for Jews in Israel to end their regime of ethnically-based domination and extreme inequality. Any claim of feeling fear by any Jews with regard to Al Quds Day, if it is in fact sincere and real, is because of their own intense identification with the State of Israel and their feeling that they will be harmed if the State of Israel ceases to exist. People feel fear for many reasons. Not all fear, which is a subjective emotion, actually correlates to any real threat. The feelings of fear expressed by some Jews regarding the Al Quds Day rally have no basis in anything at all that anyone says or does at that rally. Those feelings are simply their feelings. That does not mean that there is any actual, external reason for them to feel fear. Although there is strong rhetoric against the State of Israel, there is absolutely no threat to Jews. Claims by some Jews to feel fear need to be assessed in light of the reality that there is in fact no threat or danger to them. The subjective feelings of some people are not a basis on which to deny the charter rights of others.
Doug Ford@fordnation

This afternoon, I’ve instructed my Attorney General to pursue an injunction against the Al-Quds Day demonstration planned for Toronto. Hate, violence and intimidation have no place on the streets of Canada and our government will fight it however we can.

@GeoffBudden @SandraCobena_ @TheAegeanMaco That may end up being the primary argument against Cobena's proposed provision. I believe, though, it is sound, similar in some respects to the rarely used, but needed, "Whistleblower Provision" protecting innocent parties.

🚨BREAKING: I officially tabled the Stand on Guard Act. This bill would clarify the legal standard for self-defence to add a clear presumption that when someone knowingly and unlawfully enters your home, the force you thought necessary to defend yourself and your family is presumed to be reasonable, unless the facts show otherwise. Your home should be your safe place, not the place where the law turns against you for protecting the people you love. #cdnpoli
