In research led by @michaelschwalbe of our lab, partisan bias trumped truth in people’s belief and sharing of real + fake news— an effect that held across ideology, education level, and cognitive ability. Critical thinking begins with being critical of our own minds.

Fascinating (and frightening) work by @michaelschwalbe et al: Resistance to true news that didn’t align w political beliefs was greater than susceptibility to fake news that did. This means it may be harder to spread truth in today’s media climate than we thought..

Twitter use is related to decreases in well-being + increases in sense of belonging, polarization, outrage, and boredom. Doomscrolling was related to the drop in well-being, using it for entertainment was linked to the increase in polarization: nature.com/articles/s4427…
