I can’t even anymore… How many embarrassing Canadian moments have gone viral this week alone? An NDP convention consumed by ideological posturing, where purity tests matter more than practical solutions for Canadians. An awards show, the Junos, that felt less like a celebration of music and more like a publicly funded service announcement, pushing messaging instead of showcasing artists. And now, in the middle of a fatal aviation tragedy, the national conversation shifts from pilot deaths to language politics. At some point, you have to ask: What are we actually prioritizing? Because this is not a distraction anymore. It’s a pattern. We are choosing optics over reality. Narratives over facts. Performative debates over serious issues that actually affect people’s lives. And if we can’t even focus on loss of life without turning it into a political talking point, then something is deeply off. Not just with our institutions, but with us. Because if we can’t tell what matters anymore, we shouldn’t be surprised when nothing does.

@CurlingInside @worldcurling @Kmartcurl I am a fan of Einnarson, and Canadian curling. But a bigger fan of curling. Team Schealler played a positive (exciting), skillful game (and tourney). A formidable four - for the next decade.

@nejatian I’m re-posting to some of my non-Canadian followers. I hate when people lie or sensationalize. Or post other people’s untrue posts. But everything this Kaz guy says is unequivocally true.

Today is the leadership convention of the NDP, Canada’s socialist party The crowd at the convention chanted “Eat the Rich” in unison and then unironically elected a private school educated multimillionaire. Socialists are fun like that.

‘Break It to Them Gently’ often seems to be a favourite in my live shows. It’s had more airplay in Canada than any other song I’ve written. It seems to have struck a chord with many people.

A message from Kaitlyn Lawes, via Instagram: I’m hanging up my shoes!..sort of. This is not a retirement announcement but I am taking a break. I started curling 34 years ago. I fell in love with the game from day one and had so much fun playing it with my family. All through my junior years I played other sports as well, but curling was the one sport I wanted to play more of, and try to find ways to get better. In 2006 when my dad got sick, I wanted nothing more than to have my dad see me win a Provincial title. That didn’t happen. Two months after his passing we won our first Provincial, National and World medal. Playing the game he loved was a way for me to always feel connected to my dad. Fast forward to the present and I have now completed 17 years playing in Women’s as my full time job. I am so lucky. I am grateful for all the teammates, coaches and friends I have made along the way. I could have never imagined I would get the opportunity to travel the world playing a sport I love, compete in 3 Olympic Games, 2 World Championships and 12 Scotties. These last 4 years have been an incredibly fun challenge. We went through a lot in our short time together and I’m sad this chapter is closing. It was a privilege to compete alongside Selena, Jocelyn and Kristin. I’m so grateful for their friendship. I have decided now is a good time for me to hit pause and take a year off to be home with my family. I didn’t take a maternity leave with either of my girls, and now at the start of a new Olympic cycle I feel like is the perfect time to rest, recover, learn more on the farm and be home with my family. I am excited for this next chapter. I don’t know where it’s going to take me…Maybe one day it will lead to a retirement, or maybe it will lead me right back to the game I love. Who knows. In the mean time, I won’t be too far. If you need a spare, I might be available. If you need someone to speak at your company event, I might be available. Or as my 3 year old puts it, I might just stay home and be a mommy. Thanks for being on this ride with me. The fans of curling sure are special. I am grateful for the love and support from coast to coast and around the world. See you on the ice soon, Kaitlyn

@strombo George, Using emojis and the word "fire" as a noun makes you a hack, not a journalist. And a poser.

@JimmyCaramac @NABurkinshaw Not just young. My introverted 20-year old daughter was accepted in a female university a capella singing group. She’s still quiet, but thrives in this community.

@NABurkinshaw Nicola one of the great things to do when you are young is join a club of some sort even if you are quiet, shy or low in confidence. I was fortunate to join a lawn bowling club when i was a young scamp and was the best thing i have ever done.

I run a little chess club for my son & his mates, & one lad is a bit younger & less experienced than the others. He is beaten every week but always shakes hands graciously at the end. Today he won 2 games, shook hands & whispered to himself "this is the best day of my life". ❤
