People say crypto has no use case. Well I completely disagree, because the use case that drew me here is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. I came here for NFTs, because as someone who was a commercial filmmaker at the time, it was the first time digital artists had something they could put their art on that could act as ownership.
Yes, it's a link to an IPFS, or a small file on chain. It's put on a date and time on a blockchain as record or provenance, and essentially documentation of ownership.
And the great thing is people went to SOL, where they literally destroyed their NFTs to degen into memecoins, destroying supply. I got to get art from literal legends like Earl Einharm, a generative artist from the 70s who inscribed on Bitcoin ordinals. I got to hang out on Discord with Jesse Moynihan, the artist for Adventure Time, as he made a bizarre fever dream of short film funded by NFTs, I still have the full set of and meticulously collected. I even own a Damien Hirst piece.
Even the grifts are of interest to me -- an early art AI grift from the original Midjourney engine that stole data from an artist and was winning art competitions, that's absolutely still gorgeous fully accepting that fact. I also have a fraction of a Warhol Soup Can painting that the creator couldn't sell out to save his life and probably rug pulled. Still historically documented.
And I got to see the emergence of new art in the space like aeoniumsky, unsigs, MIO, and Charles Manchin -- and mint their works for nothing or buy for dirt cheap from the secondary market like Yasen, who was one of the first people run out of the space by the IOG cabal.
pool.pm is STILL the killer app of Cardano from @SmaugPool.
I got all this for practically nothing, because no one appreciated it because they only cared about quick flips and dumping for more mint gambles, or as a weapon to hurt artists.
And I have the provenance of storing them all in my cold wallet and not touching it. It's like a snapshot of culture over the past 5 years.
So crypto served me well, because as a collector of many things, I've seen and experience true value explode of simply holding and forgetting things and letting them gain time value ✌️
