“I’ll make it up later.” That sentence quietly steals years from a lot of families.

You can be physically home… and emotionally somewhere else. That’s the part that hit me hardest.

Sometimes your family would trade some of the success… just to have more of you.

Just got back from Board of Advisors in Dallas… and I’m still processing how good the conversations were. A room full of founders building serious companies… but also asking the questions that don’t show up on a P&L. One of the coolest surprises was seeing this conversation published in the latest Board of Advisors magazine: “George Rivera on the Founder Trap and Buying Back Time.” The founder trap is real. The business looks successful on paper… but decisions, approvals, and “quick questions” still route back to the founder… and it quietly starts costing you at home. In the article, I share the moment I realized I was spending founder hours on $50-an-hour tasks… and why the solution isn’t “better productivity.” It’s decision rights… clear ownership… and a leadership cadence that keeps problems from showing up at dinner. The best part, though… After Dallas I flew back up to Michigan (days before driving back to Texas), walked into our lake house, and my son Leo grabbed the magazine and held it like it was the coolest thing in the world. That’s the win I care about. Building a business that works… and a life I don’t have to escape from. Also… we lined up a bunch of new podcast guests while I was there. We’re over 100 guests in motion and pushing 150 if we stop taking new guests for a bit. More soon… we’re close to releasing some free training that leads into Leo Interviews Academy. Grateful for the Board of Advisors community and the conversations that actually matter.

A few years ago… this was Leo. Just a little kid riding his Strider bike barefoot in the driveway. Now he’s 11 years old interviewing entrepreneurs, authors, founders, surgeons, speakers, and leaders. And honestly… The biggest transformation hasn’t been the podcast. It’s been his confidence. Watching him become more comfortable talking to adults… asking thoughtful questions… listening well… speaking clearly… and building real relationships… has been incredible to watch as a dad. That’s a big part of why we created Leo Interviews Academy. Not to turn kids into influencers. Not to create more screen time. But to help kids become more curious, articulate, confident, and connected through real conversations. Because confidence usually doesn’t appear overnight. It gets built through reps. Small moments. Small conversations. Small acts of courage repeated over time. That’s what interviewing has done for Leo. And it’s what we want to help other kids experience too. We just opened the Founding Families Beta and are limiting it to 25 families while we build closely with the first group. If you want to check it out: leointerviewsacademy.com And if you know a parent who would love this for their child, I’d genuinely appreciate you sharing it with them.

“We’ll handle the business, but let’s get you back in the family. Let’s get Dad back in the house so it’s not the iPad and iPhone raising the kids. That’s what they really need.” George is on a mission to inspire more dads to be present in their kids' lives. It can feel impossible as a business owner, but with the right systems in place, you shouldn't have to always be at the office. George Rivera shares his lifelong passion: helping high-achieving fathers buy back their time to become the presence their families deserve. If you want to learn more about what George does, check out the full podcast! Your kids don't need a better provider; they need a present father.
