“The real disruption is not AI replacing people. It’s people with AI replacing everyone else.” Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, says the people predicting the collapse of white-collar work are missing the real story. AI is not a replacement layer. It’s a force multiplier for people with expertise. Engineers, doctors and builders won’t disappear — they’ll operate at a scale that used to require entire organizations.

The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans... The French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans. Conclusion: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

@nypost I agree that she is beautiful, but casting a Black woman to play a White woman in a foundational work of European literature is no more right than casting a White man to play Shaka Zulu!

@megha_lilly The main thesis of Homer’s Iliad can be summarized as a criticism of “great men” and that thesis is stated in the opening lines of the Iliad. all great works place their main argument clearly at the beginning.

I’ve discovered Homer is such a good litmus test for people. Weak men and bitter women both hate Homer because he makes us look up and aspire to greatness, to admire greatness, all while admitting to the fallibility and hubris of man.

@JayDyer The death threat is not cool but it’s his Protestant reaction to the resurgence of “institutional religion” which his theories cannot yet accommodate.

@megha_lilly Joyce’s Ulysses was a coded reaction to modern decadence. Specifically he writes in post war years in which the general “love of beauty heroism and transcendent virtue” led to senseless slaughter of Europeans by Europeans.

The more you love Homer, heroism, beauty, transcendent virtue, and humanity the more you DESPISE James Joyce. Emily Wilson and Christopher Nolan don’t even measure up to the level of hatred and insult that James Joyce levied at Homer.

“... I base my arguments on the Gospels, rather than on Saint Thomas Aquinas or on Aristotle. That's why I have the fideists, the ones who say, ‘I believe because it's absurd,’ against me, as well as the old Catholics who cite Aristotle at the drop of the hat but never the Gospels.” — René Girard

For the record, I think Lupita Nyong’o is incredibly beautiful. I mean she has a nearly perfect face. The issue is that Helen of Troy was Greek and described as fair and Musk is almost certainly correct that Nolan changed her race to fulfill the new diversity standards the Academy requires. And we should whine about that. It’s death to art.

Time is part of the created universe. God is not subject to restrictions of any of his creations, including time. This doesn't mean he's not logical because the logic of linear time is not absolute (eg Relativity). Isn't there a historical thread that argues that time in some sense is created precisely to reconcile God's omnipotence and human free will?

Freedomain - with Stefan Molyneux, MA
If God knows everything past, present and future, He is all-knowing. If God knows the future, He cannot change it, therefore He is not all-powerful. If God knows the future, we do not have free will. We cannot be punished for our choices if they are not in fact choices.
