The problem of underemployment involves two issues. Primary issue: underemployment is too high. Secondary issue: the policy community doesn’t agree on the extent of the problem. CEW Director Jeff Strohl discusses advancing underemployment research. bit.ly/40zyI8x

Because women and members of underrepresented racial/ethnic groups bear the brunt of economic inequality in rural areas, we need programs specifically geared toward these groups that offer credentials for good jobs available in the rural economy. bit.ly/3SJZIxI

The US's siloed approach to postsecondary education and training, workforce, and supports for workers contributes to credential and job misalignment in the labor market. One solution: Link federal and state education and workforce data. @Forbes forbes.com/sites/alisongr…

If you are a woman or a member of an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, the deck is stacked against you—so you will need to take additional measures to optimize your outcomes as long as our education and labor market systems remain unjust. bit.ly/3pTk2jn

The graduate-degree-to-bachelor’s-degree earnings premium is as much as it was 30 years ago. An exception is doctoral degrees: the earnings premium associated with these has increased from just over 50% in the 1990s to just over 60% in the early 2020s. bit.ly/3NaFnzn

Graduate school debt varies by field of study: graduate program completers in the healthcare field are more likely to take out debt than those in other fields. They hold the most debt at the median, well above the overall median across all fields of study. bit.ly/3NaFnzn
