I’ve been all over the world and everywhere I go, it’s the same story: addiction, homelessness, toxic drugs. Prince George is no different. At 6AM, in -4°, I brought coffee to some people on the street. Just coffee… and that opened the door. We talked about recovery. I told them I used to be exactly where they are. Now I’m back in their city… giving a keynote on surviving it. They all said the same thing: “I’ve tried to quit… more than once.” So did I and told them this: You only fail when we stop trying. I showed them an old photo of myself. Their reaction? “Holy shit… that’s not you.” Exactly. Change is possible. And sometimes… hope starts with something as simple as a hot coffee on a freezing morning and someone who stops long enough to care! I know it changed my life.

Good morning everyone, some personal news ... March 18, 2013 — I made a decision that saved my life: Just one day. No drugs. I didn’t know if I could do two. I didn’t know if I even wanted to. But I did one. And then another. And now it’s been 13 years free from opioids, cocaine, meth, alcohol… everything that once owned me. This is what “one day at a time” looks like. To everyone who believed in me before I believed in myself, thank you. 13 years drug free. HELL YEAH.

JUST IN Mark Ideson has been named one of Canada’s closing ceremony flag-bearers. He just found out here after getting his gold medal. Natalie Wilkie also named closing ceremony flag-bearer. She won four medals. Was opening ceremony flag-bearer too.

Covered my first Paralympics in 2018 in Pyeongchang. Met and covered the Canadian wheelchair curling team. A special group. Bronze in 2018. Covered their bronze in 2022 as well. Tomorrow they play for Paralympic gold. What a team. Making their country proud.
