But then comes the key reason: “…the patron-client dynamic is beginning to undermine the broad-based political support for the alliance in the United States. At a time of deep partisan polarization in the United States, the need for Congress to regularly pass bills to keep aid flowing gets Israel unnecessarily tangled up in American domestic politics and can turn the country’s conduct into a lightning rod.” This is not surprising. According to the latest polls, Americans have shifted dramatically with respect to their sympathies in the Middle East, going from 60% sympathizing more with Israelis in 2020 to 36% today, while Palestinians moved up from approx. 25% to 41% within the same time period. news.gallup.com/poll/702440/is…👇 But what would a transition from dependence to partnership entail? What are the conditions that would make Israel feel safe enough, so as to transition away from direct US support? Any move towards “greater security” for Israel could translate in numerous civilian victims, obliteration, ethnic cleansing and further destabilization of the Middle East.

Τώρα το αν απορρίπτετε τις παραπάνω θέσεις επειδή τις υιοθετεί η Αριστερά είναι δικό σας πρόβλημα και ενδεικτικό του τρόπου που σκέφτεστε. Καλή μέρα.

Βλέποντας τη συνέντευξη Κοβέσι από το φόρουμ των Δελφών, αναλογιζόμουν πως η κυβέρνηση αυτή επιδιώκει τη διαμόρφωση μιας νέας εθνικής ταυτότητας για τη χώρα. Μιας ταυτότητας που προκύπτει από τη συνύπαρξη ενός ευρωπαϊκού εκσυγχρονισμού με τη συντήρηση κάποιων στοιχείων που έχουν χαρακτηρίσει το πρόσφατο ή λιγότερο πρόσφατο παρελθόν μας. Το ερώτημα λοιπόν είναι τι κρατάς και τι αφήνεις πίσω. Φαίνεται λοιπόν πως η νέα αυτή ταυτότητα διαμορφώνεται κρατώντας: 1. Την επαρχιωτικού τύπου διαφθορά: Μετά από 16 χρόνια “σκληρής δημοσιονομικής προσαρμογής”, “επώδυνων αλλά απαραίτητων θεραπειών” και όλων αυτών των κοινοτοπιών, σηκώνεις πέτρα και βρίσκεις από κάτω το ίδιο ρουσφέτι, τις ίδιες πελατειακές σχέσεις, και την ίδια έπαρση για το πως καταφέραμε να κοροϊδέψουμε τους κουτόφραγκους. 2. Τον κοτζαμπασισμό: Εκσυγχρονιζόμαστε υιοθετώντας πρακτικές ελεύθερης αγοράς και ιδρύοντας χρηματιστήρια ενέργειας, ενώ τη χώρα κυβερνούν στην πράξη δέκα προύχοντες που έμαθαν να παίζουν με τους καινούργιους κανόνες. 3. Την εκμεταλλευτική εργασία: Ψηφιοποιούμε, εισάγουμε επιθετικά την ηλεκτροκίνηση, ενσωματώνουμε στην καθημερινότητά μας την τεχνητή νοημοσύνη, ενώ θεσπίζουμε το 13ωρο και δημιουργούμε μια εργασιακή πραγματικότητα στην οποία οι νέοι θα προτιμήσουν το delivery και την εποχική εστίαση από μια θέση στη βιομηχανία (ή σε ό,τι απέμεινε από αυτή). Διαμορφώνεται επίσης επιλέγοντας να αφήσει πίσω: 1. Τη βιώσιμη καθημερινότητα που εδραζόταν σε λογικές τιμές ενοικίων και πρόσβαση σε ένα αξιοπρεπές δημόσιο σύστημα υγείας. Βάλαμε πλώρη για ευρωπαϊκές τιμές στα ενοίκια, ιδιωτικοποίηση της υγείας, και ξεχάσαμε να αυξήσουμε τους μισθούς και να χτίσουμε ένα σοβαρό ενιαίο ασφαλιστικό φορέα. 2. Τον ισχυρό κοινωνικό ιστό, με σχεδόν 90% του πληθυσμού να δηλώνει καχύποπτο απένταντι στους συνανθρώπους του👇 ekathimerini.com/news/1239232/g… 3. Την προσφορά ανακούφισης στον πρόσφυγα και φιλοξενίας στο μετανάστη, σηκώνοντας τοίχους στα χερσαία σύνορα και κάνοντας επαναπροωθήσεις στο Αιγαίο.

@GuillaumeLong Let us not forget that this is the rule, not the exception. The recent Lancet study (thelancet.com/journals/langl…), indicated a death toll of 38 million people over five decades by unilateral sanctions mainly imposed by the "civilized north", the US and the EU.

Cuba's infant mortality rate rose 148% between 2018 and 2025 — from 4.0 to 9.9 deaths per 1,000 live births as a result of the tightening of the US embargo. An additional 1,800 babies died as a result of the harsher sanctions imposed under Trump-Biden-Trump. The hardening of US sanctions during the first Trump administration further cut Cuba's access to medical supplies, fuel, foreign exchange, and financing. 300 ambulances are currently out of service. Incubators fail during blackouts caused by a US fuel blockade active since January 2026. A 2025 Lancet Global Health study estimated broad unilateral sanctions cause ~564,000 deaths per year globally. 51% of those deaths are children under 5. We are talking about the death of children resulting from clearly identifiable policy decisions. To the international community, the UN, the CELAC, the EU, and every government and international organization with a mandate to protect civilian populations: what is the plan? Condemnations are not enough anymore. We need broad collective action — with actors, mechanisms, and deadlines — to stop this killing.

@GeorgiosStatho Αγαπητέ δυστυχώς η διαφθορά που υπάρχει παντού ίσως είναι το ποίο δύσκολο κομμάτι της κοινωνίας να πεταχτεί καθώς αυτή ξεκινάει από τα νηπιαγωγεία και φτάνει ως την κεφαλή του πολιτικού συστήματος.

Heck, she'll probably even be praised as "courageous" for admitting her administration helped kill tens of thousands of children...

@TMirkin Israel received tremendous support from Biden in 2023 and 2024. You are probably suggesting that the democratic basis is divided from the democratic leadership on this topic.

@GeorgiosStatho 80% of the Democratic party voted to not allow Israel to legally purchase weapons from the US. Israel as an ally was taken off their platform in 2012. It’s the other way around. The fracture started over a decade ago in the US.

Την έχει επηρεάσει την καθημερινότητά σας, αρνητικά. Η μείωση του χρέους επετεύχθη με συρρίκνωση των εισοδημάτων, την ίδια ώρα που τα λειτουργικά έξοδα του μέσου πολίτη έχουν αυξηθεί δραματικά. Αυτό που πέτυχε η μείωση του χρέους είναι να γίνουμε ξανά τα καλά παιδιά της Ευρώπης. Με ο,τι αυτό συνεπάγεται.

Πρέπει να προκαλεί, πάντως, απογοήτευση στους οπαδούς του «ναι» στο δημοψήφισμα του 2015, και απόγνωση σε όσους υπέμειναν τη δημοσιονομική προσαρμογή των μνημονίων, το να βρισκόμαστε, σχεδόν 15 χρόνια μετά, στην ίδια θέση. Σαν να λες σε καρκινοπαθή, μετά από επώδυνες χημειοθεραπείες, πως ο όγκος δεν έχει συρρικνωθεί καθόλου.

I hope @BrankoMilan has resolved his dilemma about (not) going to give a lecture in Israel, in light of last weeks' developments.

Pause for a moment to process this. 1⃣Human development has regressed by 77 years — two lost generations. 2⃣1.9 million out of a total population of approximately 2.1 million people are displaced - this represents 90% of the population, arguably the highest displacement rate of any population in modern history. 3⃣About 60% of the population has no home to return to. 4⃣Nearly all schools have been damaged or destroyed. 5⃣More than half of all hospitals are non-functional - patients in need of immediate care are condemned to die. Such unlivable conditions will inevitably result in mass migration, causing a massive brain drain that will, in turn, make the prospect of reconstruction even more elusive. They let ethnic cleansing finish what the genocide could not. A collective shame on the entire Western civilized world for allowing this to happen.
