@TheHillTimes columnist, and one of Canada's top five political minds. Slightly cuter than Justin Trudeau.

The way Trump is remaining completely silent while the Democrats self-destruct is kinda scary; it's like that scene in Jurassic Park where the velociraptor uses the door handle.

Took a look at The Big Shift today, which I co-wrote with @JohnIbbitson after 2011 election. Still a good place to start for anyone trying to understand bigger trends driving contemporary Canadian politics. And, it popularized the term Laurentian Elite. Not too shabby.

Until I saw our polling for @globalnews on politics and budget, would have bet $1 NDP would support budget. Not so sure now. Why wait for LPC to make all decisions about election timing? In change election a chance NDP could pass LPC and become official opposition.

Few extras on our poll for @globalnews on federal politics and reaction to the budget. CPC leads in every region except Quebec where BQ leads. But CPC tied now with LPC in Quebec. CPC leads by 11 in Ontario. If an election held tomorrow this is very strong CPC majority. 1/n

As 2023 wraps up, what does 2024 look like for Canadian federal politics? It is shaping up to be decisive for the LPC and PM Trudeau. A few tweets for your consideration. 1/n

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was born on this day in 1918. Here is my column when he died in 2008 (is.gd/8ZcEHl) & my 2003 column on the 25th anniversary of his Harvard speech “A World Split Apart” (is.gd/hXU1yH).

Taking out more extreme polls from avg, stark how wide, deep problem is for LPC. JT now where Mulroney was in 92. That potential replacement isn’t inspiring didn’t and doesn’t matter. Cdns just wanted change in 93. Same shaping up now. Truth of what LPC is facing today.
