Encouraging way to finish pre-season. Lankshear already looks like the focal point we’ve been crying out for up front, while Berhalter’s delivery from set-pieces could be a real weapon this season. Castledine and Cartwright both impressed again and look ready to make a real impact. The big concern remains defensively. Too many sloppy goals conceded, which only reinforces the need for a top-quality CB alongside Malanda or Jones. Hopefully the Ashley Phillips rumours have some substance #UTB

Got to feel for Howe. He’s done an outstanding job, but Newcastle’s recruitment over the last few windows has been poor. Now they’re being forced to cash in on their best players—Isak, Gordon, Tonali, Anderson and, soon enough, probably Bruno. It’s shaping up to be a tough season for the Mags.

Very radicalised by Saltburn CC-gate. I went through all 20 matches the 2nd XI has played this year. When J. Bowes is keeping wicket, they take nearly four times as many keeper catches per match. Just completely implausible.

After Argentina’s antics across the last two World Cups, particularly during and after the final against Spain, it’s astonishing they’re still refusing to accept any accountability or show the slightest remorse. Instead of reflecting on their conduct, they continue to double down and embarrass themselves further.

Holloway was funny for about five minutes when he was at Bristol Rovers and QPR. Now he’s well past his sell-by date. He comes across as a very bitter man who’s desperately trying to stay relevant.

What is the why behind Stuart Maynard leaving? My immediate reaction is one of huge disappointment - I’m genuinely upset by this… It feels like a clinical decision, stripped of any real feeling, after a remarkable season in which Maynard proved himself to be both an exceptional manager and an exceptional man Disagreements happen in football. The concern is that, from the outside, this one appears to have reached the point of no return rather than being managed, contained or resolved for the wider good of the club It is also difficult to ignore that both managerial departures appear to have raised questions around the manager’s authority and level of involvement, even if the full picture is still unclear Maybe more will emerge. Max Merrick to Hartlepool on a season-long loan could be a smart bit of business. The 20-year-old Chelsea keeper has just signed a new deal until 2028, so is clearly highly rated. Athletic, excellent shot stopper, comfortable with the ball at his feet and suits the modern game. ⭐️ Shot stopping: 8.5/10 ⭐️ Distribution: 8/10 ⭐️ Sweeper keeper: 8/10 ⭐️ Handling: 7.5/10 Needs to improve his command of the box and consistency, but if he adapts to the physicality of the National League, Pools could have one of the better keepers in the division.
