This week for #WomensWednesday we honor, Dian Fossey, an American primatologist and conservationist who conducted extensive research on mountain gorilla populations from 1966 until her murder in 1985. In Rwanda's mountain forests, she observed them daily.

Did you know that Lemur #frogs are a type of frog that can change color? When they are active at night, their upper parts turn brown. When they sleep, they become green to fit in with the leaves on which they sleep.

Some colourful frogs, such as the Fort Randolph Robber Frog (Pristimantis gaigei), have developed the same colouration as a co-occurring poisonous species. This mimicry gives the frog an advantage to avoid being preyed on.

Unless you are a #vegetarian who doesn’t eat #soy, or you raise your own livestock fed with locally sourced feed, we indirectly contribute to the clearing of the Amazon Rainforest. This biodiverse area is cleared to make way for soy farms to feed poultry and piggery industrues.

This #WomensWednesday we honor Kay Behrensmeyer. She is a pioneer in the field of terrestrial palaeontology, focusing her research in human evolution. Her tenacity in a male dominated field is proof that with little determination, women can achieve anything.

Local women have continuously proven that they are equally capable of being part of conservation efforts. They bring with them a wealth of knowledge about nature and their nurturing spirit makes it a lot easier to care for it.

Did you know that just like a tree, a #frog’s bones form a new ring every year when the frog is hibernating? Scientists can use these rings to determine the frog's age.

Many poisonous #frogs, such as the golden poison frog use their colouration to warn predators of their dangerous toxic skins.

More than 1,400 tree species are assessed as critically endangered and in urgent need of conservation action. Do not cut down Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora), takurowa (Talbotiella gentii) as part of achieving Aichi Targets and meeting climate commitments.

This week's #WomensWednesday we honor the late Kono Yasui, Japan’s first female to receive a doctorate in science during an era where her country and many others opposed the idea of women in academia and research.

Did you know that #Frog ears, known as tympanums, resemble a flat, disc-shaped patch of skin adjacent to each eye? The size and distance between the tympanums influence the volume and pitch of the noises made by each frog.

We have recently witnessed the end of perhaps the most important meeting of global leaders and scientists for earth at #COP26. Yet again, very ambitious promises to reduce global emissions to slow down climate change have been made.

For this #WomensWednesday, we recognize Isatou Ceesay. Isatou was forced to drop out of school at a young age, but that didn't mean she was oblivious to the environmental difficulties that surrounded her. Today, she is recognized as the "Queen of Recycling in The Gambia."

When Darwin's #frog tadpoles hatch, a male frog swallows them. He holds the little amphibians in his vocal sac for around 60 days to allow them to grow. He then coughs up little, fully formed frogs.

Did you know that once a week, the skin of a #frog is completely shed? After removing the old, dead skin, which is a good source of calcium, the frog usually eats it.

Frogs usually eat meat like bugs and worms. They eat by swallowing their food whole.
