they aren't doing the right thing because they are jacking up the price of the consoles at the same time lol. some people will buy it but most people likely wont, but their ability to sell games this way is reduced by something like 70% releasing the games years later is the problem. they did that and complained about low sales because the game just isn't hype after all that time. simultaneous release is the move and has been proven with games like Helldivers 2 and arguably Marathon too (cause 70% of the player base is on PC, game would be concord dead without PC carrying it)
