On Good Friday, even the Pope lays everything down.
No ring.
No shoes.
No staff.
No chasuble.
The man who carries the weight of Catholic Church strips himself of every visible sign of power… and walks barefoot before the Cross.
Why?
Because on this day, there is no throne, only Calvary.
The altar is stripped.
The bells fall silent.
The Church holds its breath.
There is no Mass.
Because the Priest is dead.
The Eternal High Priest, Jesus Christ, has offered Himself. And in that haunting silence, no other sacrifice dares to echo His.
The Pope himself falls face down on the ground prostrate, broken in prayer, mourning not just as a leader but as a man before his crucified God.
And yet… we still receive Communion.
Not from a new consecration, but from what was reserved the night before, Holy Thursday, like a body laid in the tomb, waiting in silence.
Every gesture screams one truth:
Before the suffering Christ, all glory is stripped away.
All titles fall.
All power kneels.
Only love remains. ✝️

Pope Leo XIV: “I'm told that President Trump recently stated that he would like to end the war. Hopefully he's looking for an 'off-ramp'. Hopefully he's looking for a way to decrease the amount of violence, of bombing, which would be a significant contribution to removing the hatred that's being created and that's increasing constantly in the Middle East and elsewhere.
I appeal to all leaders, come back to the table, to dialogue. Let's look for solutions to problems, let's look for ways to reduce the amount of violence that we're promoting, that peace - especially at Easter - might reign in our hearts."
