A bit of 'shroom' hunting between bouts of eye surgery and found some real beauties! Perfect weather for it.

Kids sat chatting at breakfast about GMOs. Little one says "Yeah because if you put the gene from a shark and put it into a rabbit, then the rabbit will eat a lot of fish!". 😀

@ZarahPattison Yep just one queen. Murder hornet is more commonly used to describe Vespa mandarinia which thankfully has not arrived here yet....

@SheffieldHoney I do feed autumn syrup but also add candy below the insulation. I find it a useful early warning for the bees moving up. I leave it in the bag with a flap open at the bottom. You can put it above the cluster & watch them nibble away. Most colonies don't touch it but some do.

Not sure why so many people are adding fondant blocks on hives in December, does nobody feed their bees in autumn anymore? fondant is emergency only for me, they act as massive heat sinks 🙁

@PhDfriendSana For me it is important to teach personal incredulity and advocacy in science as an intergral part of the research process. Comparing the science presented in a paper with the opinions expressed via the science media center can be useful.

Absolutely delighted to announce I'll be starting work leading Crop Diversity and Agronomy research @OrgResCent from Jan 2023. Filling the formidable shoes of @Ambro_ORC I'll miss many @AgricultureNCL colleagues and students but ready to return to my organic roots!
