Dedicated remainer, hope to leave the place in better shape than I found it but struggling. Five years virus research in previous life means COVID-19 scares me

@Andrew_Adonis Can’t and never will accept government’s right to implement result of an advisory, deeply flawed referendum which asked a binary question on a non-binary issue. 17.4 million voted to leave, the other 50 million of us didn’t.

@xxxxTheKing If anyone cares My answer is 1? Each number multiplied by 5 (in the middle) will then equal the number that appears directly opposite on the wheel. I think I learned this aged about 6. Almost 70 years ago.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the people who spend the most time in formal education are often the least able to see the brokenness of the system. When you’ve spent 6 figures and thousands of hours marinating in that environment, it’s not just an investment, it becomes your identity. The diploma isn’t just a credential, it’s a badge of allegiance. To question the system is to question yourself, and that’s too painful for most to do. Which is why so many of our “educated elites” cling to narratives that are visibly failing in health, economics, and culture. Indoctrination disguised as education. Real wisdom usually comes after you start unlearning what you paid so much to believe.

None of what you say — and I agree with some of it — justifies the government lying to us — which it is now doing on an industrial scale.
Rob@Rob__Friar

You can choose to not like @Keir_Starmer policies, I certainly do not support them all. However, even if you ideologically oppose @UKLabour, they are serious politicians working to sort out 14 years of disgraceful self serving Tory governments that left the UK in a huge mess. Imagine having voted for them 🤷‍♂️ The total opposite of Labour is @Nigel_Farage and @ReformUK. How can anybody who considers them informed consider them a realistic alternative? Farage barely showed up as an NMP. Lost 7 elections before finally becoming an MP in #Clacton. The people of Clacton will tell you he’s barely been seen there since. He’s already skipping Parliament for holidays and jaunts to USA to beg for Trump’s graces. What makes anybody think Farage is anything other than a grifting parody figure? He would be a lazier, more disastrous PM than @BorisJohnson which to be fair, would be some achievement.

BS statistic. March 2022 was to express seriousness to NATO and shock Ukraine into negotiations. Forces deployed weren't tasked or designed to take swaths of territory. Recent territorial gains have been sought as buffer zones. If Russia proceeds onto Oddessa, that's another matter.

1/8 russia is actually losing the war it started in Ukraine—not just slowly, but strategically. Still, it’s not giving up. It’s buying time, hoping Trump will help it escape defeat. Here’s why russia is losing—and why we shouldn’t let Trump save it:

If Elon Musk wakes up and stops pointlessly moaning on Twitter he will realize he has more than enough money to buy a few Senators and cripple Donald Trump from being able to do anything.

@GillamAF @i_iratus @AndyGJBurge Yeah, vans are used to transport stuff. If you need to transport stuff you get a van. You don’t drive one around if you’re not transporting stuff. That’s cars you’re thinking of. American cars are not as suitable to European markets. Why buy a Mustang when you could buy a Jaguar?

@RnaudBertrand I think in the long term boosting US manufacturing and hurting China both serve Trump’s base. In the medium term increased prices are politically costly. So they need propaganda to claim it makes economic sense as well. Short term stock market effects are not significant.

Probably one the biggest economic blunders in history. $500 million in 15 days means $12 billion a year in additional tax revenue. Literal trillions in wealth destroyed, interest on the debt increased, the dollar weakened, businesses wiped out all over the world, literally every single country in the world antagonized... all for raising a yearly amount of taxes that can fund the US military budget for just 4 days.

Aide memoire to Mr E Miliband: Germany’s first ever offshore wind farm, Alpha Ventus, is be dismantled after being in operation for only 15 years. Too unprofitable to operate now it can no longer pocket massive subsidies of 15.4 cents per KWh, which have run out. Forced from now on to exist on basic tariff of 3.9 cents per KWh, it will close down. Now remind me about renewables being so much cheaper …
