The swallows arrived home this morning! Best news of all and always brings a tear to my eye. They’re busy checking out their nests in the porch.

So much mysteries about this mysterious church! Late Saxon wall painting is believed to be the earliest representation of the Trinity in this form. Used pigments include cinnabar, most expensive one in a tiny church used by Saxons 🤔 St. Mary’s Norfolk

I have stepped into a fairy tale 🤍 Blossoming blackthorn holloways feel like pathways through the briars surrounding Sleeping Beauty🤍 I saw marsh harriers & adders and heard a bittern booming.

Something ancient and wonderful for the weekend! A tiny horse figurine carved from mammoth ivory about 40,000 years ago! Imagine the #IceAge artist at work, sitting by the warmth of a fire, creating what is the world’s oldest known figure of a horse! 📷 by me #Archaeology

Extraordinary story of the lost church! Rediscovered by accident as an ivy clad roofless ruin in 1992 and was hiding one of the most important, sophisticated sets of early medieval wall painting in the country. St. Mary’s in the lost village of Houghton-on-the-Hill, Norfolk
