Ooh Nigeria has happened to me I’m writing this with so much despair, on the 24 January, 2023 I deposited the sum of 5000 euros to my domicinary account at @Sterling_Bankng @suleimana at…No 9 Ali Alikilu Road Kaduna branch Nigeria. I went to the bank on the 30th of May, 2023…

I’m sure this deliberate washing is aimed at Gen Z; people who were too young (or not yet born) to experience what actual suffering and brutality was. A maximum tyrant who formed a state-backed killer-squad, whose mission was to kill and disappear any opposition had bad PR because he pegged the dollar? What was the real rate of the dollar in the black market then? It was around N80/dollar. (I’m sure you know this). That moment was the start of the era of dollar round-tripping in Nigeria. His associates got dollar at official rates and sold them at 400% profit to the black market. We became a perpetual importer of petroleum under Abacha, all refineries stopped working. The man who stole billions of Dollars, who stole so much that we still get “blessings” from him till this day—as of July 2023, the recovered loots of this guy stood at ~$5bn, thats the ones we could trace so far. His son was forced to return $1bn of the money in 2002, but he had bad PR? People could not afford kerosene, they switched to ‘stove Abacha’. Nigerians turned saw-dust to fuel and re-invented a way to survive because not even firewood was affordable. The man who banned political parties had bad PR? The years that Nigerians couldn’t gather to discuss politics because some “gidiganku” could disappear them? The man who promulgated a decree that puts his actions beyond legal challenges in court had bad PR? How about the high profile assassinations and the bombings? Was that because of bad Pr The most brutal leader Nigeria ever had bad PR? May I remind you that Adolf Hitler and the Nazis achieved economic stability with Germany? God will have mercy on you. But when I become god, I’d make sure Nigerians relive the stories of horrors told during Justice Oputa’s panel once a year so they won’t forget. Ire O.
