Today, the EU-Mercosur agreement begins to apply provisionally. The benefits are real and visible as of now. Tariffs start falling. Companies are gaining access to new markets. Investors have the predictability they need. Provisional application will show the agreement’s tangible benefits. And how legitimate sensivities have been adressed. Giving @Europarl_EN and Member States the fullest evidence-based picture to carry out their democratic oversight.

Um momento histórico para o Brasil e o Mercosul. Assinamos hoje, após 25 anos de negociação, o decreto de promulgação do acordo Mercosul-União Europeia. Com isso, concluímos formalmente a ratificação do tratado pelo Brasil. A partir de 1º de maio, Mercosul e União Europeia começam a se unir em uma das maiores áreas de livre comércio do planeta. Somados, teremos 31 países, 720 milhões de pessoas e um PIB que ultrapassa os 22 trilhões de dólares. O acordo significa o aprofundamento do relacionamento com o nosso segundo maior parceiro comercial e maior investidor estrangeiro no Brasil. The 🇪🇺EU believes in #multilateralism, with the 🇺🇳UN at its heart. It is often challenging to find common solutions with 193 or more partners, whether in New York, Geneva, Vienna or Rome. But common rules, global standards and cross-regional initiatives are still the best answer to global challenges. At the UN in Rome, at @FAO, @WFP and @IFAD, the EU and its 27 Member States work together for multilateral solutions to strengthen global food security and to fight against hunger in the world - next Tuesday at a special session of the @FAO Council dedicated to the implications for world food security and agriculture arising from disruptions of supply chains in the Gulf region, including the closure of key maritime routes.
