📚✨ Meet Sonam Meena, a second-year microbiology student from Silphodkheda, India, currently studying at @singajicollege. For Sonam, education has always been more than just classes, it’s a pathway to confidence, independence, and hope for her family. Coming from a household with limited resources, she once struggled with English and felt held back in her studies. Everything began to change when she gained access to a laptop and the internet, made possible with the support of our partners. 💻🌐 Online classes helped her improve her English, earn certificates, complete a spoken English course, and confidently deliver presentations, something she once found intimidating. Thousands have been killed, tens of thousands detained, and Iran has been cut off from the internet as one of the deadliest protest waves in decades unfolds. For more than 10 days, Iran has been under a near-total internet shutdown - longer than during previous protests or even wartime. Phone connections are limited, and there is no clear timeline for when (or if) full internet access will be restored. For millions of people, this means being cut off from information, from loved ones, and from the outside world. Internet shutdowns are not just a technical issue. They are a tool of repression. When people cannot communicate, document abuses, or share their stories, violence becomes easier to hide and accountability harder to demand. When people are silenced, speaking up becomes a responsibility. When the internet is shut down, we must be louder. When people cannot reach the outside world, we become their voice – by sharing information, amplifying stories, and standing for the right to communicate freely. We stand with the people of Iran. Mary Patricia is a 21-year-old Ugandan and part of the Era92 Elevate (3rd cohort) program. Raised by a single mother in a family of five, she has faced challenges but remains determined to pursue her passion for film editing. She proudly recalls a school project, “A Journey of a Worshiper,” a short film that explored the role of faith and devotion in everyday life. Creating and editing this project deepened her love for videography and inspired her dream of becoming a renowned film editor and starting her own agency. Outside of her craft, Mary Patricia enjoys movies, swimming, music, and making friends. Through Era92 Elevate, she is sharpening her skills and working toward a future where her creativity makes an impact.
