🧠 We assume every cubic inch of the human brain is strictly necessary for consciousness, but neuroplasticity is far more terrifyingly efficient. This famous 2007 case involved a 44 year old French civil servant who went to the doctor for mild leg pain. An MRI revealed that a childhood case of hydrocephalus (water on the brain) had slowly expanded over decades, crushing and dissolving roughly 90% of his brain tissue. His skull was almost entirely filled with fluid. Yet, he wasn't severely disabled. He was married, had two children, and worked a normal white collar job. Over decades, the remaining 10% of his neurons had simply rewired themselves, taking on the processing workload of an entire human mind. It completely shatters our traditional maps of the brain, proving that consciousness isn't strictly tied to biological volume it's tied to the ability to adapt.
