@DavidNMandel Hvad e’er ikke er blevet nævnt er, at i 90’erne var der langt fra samme kendskab til indtag af energi i træning og konkurrence. Den gang lød anbefalingerne på 30-50g kulhydrat i timen. I dag indtager rytterne op til 120g timen. Det er en kæmpe forskel! :-)

Triathlon needs to get a handle on whether whether it wants to allow fairings or not. This is Hamburg. I understand camelbaks down the front are banned for Challenge Roth. We’ve seen it multiple times since Kona last year, including iced bottles to help with cooling as they thaw.

@ElSawyMK @Timheming Very much dependent on which country you’re from. In Denmark we one average have 4 out of competition tests per year. I’ve heard from other athletes, on a high level, who might 1 per year. So the answer must be no… sadly

For some reason many know me for my “Zone 2” work and the effects on mitochondrial function. However, over the past 26 yrs, I’ve dedicated as many hours to the scientific monitoring of the athlete applying new concepts in biomarkers, nutrition, metabolism & recovery. Learn more👇

@Alan_Couzens Out of interest.😊 How would you structure a rest week following a big block like that? Cutting both volume and intensity or would you dare to cut out all intensity?

* Average for a 4 week block: 209 TSS/d * We update every ~4 weeks (*NOT* with a 20 min test, though. With submax tests during base and lactate/metabolic tests as we approach the season)
Dione@whennotcycling

@Alan_Couzens @TrainingPeaks Curious, what's the highest CTL (and over how long) you've seen? And how often do you test/update set FTP?

@Alan_Couzens I get that it is slow. But a lot of it also comes from recovery runs, runs with a lot of elevation and a lot of the training is done at altitude. Looking just at pace seems too simple.

How did Gustav Iden run 2:34(!) to close out his debut Ironman? He must be really cranking up the pace in training? Nope. Here is his average weekly run data for the last 3mo. Of his ~90km/wk, 2/3 was at only ~80% of his Ironman pace (~60% of his 5K pace!) #TrainSlowRaceFast

@GoLngrHawk @doctorinigo @215 If you use a 0.5mMol/L increase from baseline for LT1 and a 1.5mMol/L increase for LT2 then you are close to that yes. Baseline is quite stable so the LT1 might be slightly higher than 310 but that is a safe estimate, and LT2 360.

@doctorinigo @StephenSeiler An open letter to my idols 😄 Lactate-test post off-season. 20min WU into 8 min steps. 20 min @215 W (1.3) 280 W (1.1) 295 W (1.2) 310 W (1.2) 325 W (1.4) 340 W (1.9) 355 W (2.3) 370 W (4.0) Would you define LT1 as 310ish W and LT2 close to 360W?

@MalteTherkildse @Alan_Couzens He doesn't say HIIT isn't effective. It's about short term VS long term development. HIIT has its place in a training program if used with care, but it isn't the bread and butter 😊

@Alan_Couzens Explain to me why HIT block training works then? Hammering 5 HIT/VO2max like sessions in one week has shown great results. I would imagine HRV readings would be very low that week. However, super-compensation sometimes happens it seems!

Reminder: You can't "bully your body" into faster fitness adaptations. It takes as long as it takes. If you try too hard, you'll slow things down. So.. Be patient, kind to yourself & #EnjoyTheRide !
