If I translated the full names of Don Quixote products and compiled them into a book I'm pretty sure I could make it pass as a futurist poem collection

イタリアでは他人と下の名前が被る事が当然で、名字が被る事はあまりないが、日本だと逆な気がして、調べてみた 普通に名字がめっちゃ少なかった 10名で人口の10%をカバーできてしまうらしい

In the end, I think I'll follow the dub's order as the lesser of two evils. I mostly wrote this to help me think through it. A valid counterargument would be "in the time it took you to write this, you could've shut up and translated hundreds of lines." Touché!

So, the conundrum is: do I go with the slightly jarring vowel combination, or do I go with the slightly jarring mismatch between the dub and the subs? Keep in mind this comes up dozens of times (no hyperbole) in this work.

Granted, sometimes there is a deeper meaning behind characters being mentioned in a specific order. Not in this case. I asked the writers and the only reason was "this just sounds better in English". Problem is, these are subtitles and players can hear the English names.

Let's say that "Big" is known in Italy as "Pag" and "Bad" becomes "Pig". Since the I-A-O thing applies (more or less identically) to Italian as well, you'd really want to write "Pig and Pag". The opposite, Pag and Pig, sounds a little bit jarring.

The general consensus is that I -> A -> O is the vowel order you want go with. Hence "big bad wolf" and not "bad big wolf" (adjective order probably plays a part in this specific example, but bear with me). Now, the characters' name in English obviously follow this convention.

Let's say the characters are called Big and Bad. They're ALWAYS mentioned in that order. "I have to friends called Big and Bad" and so forth. You've probably guessed this by this point, but by some horrible twist of fate, the localized Italian names have switched vowels.

The whole issue stems from what some people call the "Big Bad Wolf rule". It's not an actual rule, but when you have combination of words where the order doesn't matter, there are orders of vowels that naturally sound better and are easier to pronounce.

I'm currently going to such an extremely niche translation conundrum that I feel ridiculous just thinking about it. The context: An English piece of media that I'm doing Italian subtitles for. There's a pair of characters often mentioned together. (cont)

These two characters have established localized Italian names that cannot be changed under any circumstance. Italian players know them by those names. However, even though nobody ever *uses* them, players also recognize their English names. This is all fine and dandy.

I heard that people's hands grow drier and less greasy with age. It's not quite as universal as "playing with the grandchildren in my little countryside cottage", but my current retirement dream is of owning and actually using brushed aluminum computer peripherals

I adjusted the EQ in my car stereo, which made the music sound a lot better, except that the same settings also got applied to calls and now it sounds like the other person is speaking from the inside of my skull
