Godinton House

We are thrilled to be welcoming classical pianist Iyad Sughayer to Godinton on the 14th January 2024 for a morning of classical music in the Great Hall, marking our first event of the new year. Enjoy an enchanting 45 minutes of music, followed by light refreshments.

Pretty in Pink. All hues of pinks and purples are out in the Italian Garden this week. It gives the garden the most beautiful burst of colour!

Freshly baked scones, anyone? Every Friday and Saturday, our tearoom assistants hand-bake scones, ready for service later that day. The recipe came from our since retired housekeeper's grandmother, and has been used at Godinton for over 15 years.

A room with a view. 🌳☀️ The view from Mr. Alan's bedroom is simply stunning. Overlooking rolling countryside, it offers a clear sight into Godinton's garden and, on a clear day, even extends to the neighbouring village, Great Chart.

Is there anything more impressive than the colours that Mother Nature creates? There's magic in the fact that all the pinks, greens, whites, and yellows in the picture grew from the ground with nothing but water and a little love. What's your favourite colour to see in a garden?

Let's welcome the new week with open arms! As the end of the season approaches, we're reminded of the beauty in the final days of summer. But there's time yet; tours of Godinton House conclude for the year on September 30th, so there's still plenty of opportunity to explore!

Some morning dew on the 'Loch Leven' Delphiniums. Godinton is so fortunate to have such a stunning collection of well-nurtured delphiniums. Their beauty has endured throughout the season and is consistently remarked upon by visitors.

The Dining Room is the first room you visit on a tour of Godinton House and sets the perfect tone for the tour. The stunning room was completely rebuilt by John Toke in the mid-1700s with a new, high ceiling. 🎟️ The house is open Fridays and Saturdays for tours.

Caught in the Act of Colourful Transformation! Last night, while closing up the house, a magical surprise awaited at the bottom of the stairs. The once white statue, Lilith, was basking in vibrant colours, courtesy of the stained glass windows' giving a playful splash of colour.

🎶 Groove for Good! Join us for a swingin' soirée at Godinton House 🎵 Pack your picnic baskets and vibes for a toe-tappin' time with the U3A Hythe Swing band! All in support of the Pilgrims Hospice. Picnics kick off at 5:30, tunes start jammin' at 6:30 on August 11.

She's Out! At 10:30 p.m. last night, we managed to see the illusive flower of the Queen of the Night. It was such a stunning flower and had an incredible sweet scent. The flowers had wilted by dawn, making the sighting all the more precious.

The Queen of the Night is ready to flower ! Originating from the rain forests of central America, this sweet-smelling cactus is a rare find and an even rarer sight to see bloom, as the flower will only appear during one night of the year.

Yesterday we were visiting @Godinton House. It was very wet but still worth a visit. @VisitKent @VisitDover Recommend the carrot #cake too!

Meet Joyce. A Holland native but an English country girl at heart. Inspired by a walled garden gate here at Godinton, she created a beautiful quilt mimicking the gate. We are always so honoured when Godinton is used as creative inspiration!

'Sculpture in the Garden' is going down a storm here at Godinton.  Over 100 handcrafted sculptures by South-East based artists are currently spread throughout our garden until August 13th.  Entrance to the exhibition is included in a standard garden entry ticket.

Plant of the Week. Vanda 'Blue Samurai' is a species of orchid found in warm, humid environments. These species are epiphyte and live in the gaps of tree bark or scramble through branches. We grow this stunning orchid in our middle glasshouse.

So glad to see the Pantaloons open air theatre performance of Emma went down a storm! The pantaloons will be back on July 22 performing "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Tickets are still available on the pantaloons website.
